POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have come to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubble gum.
Grandad
I read a text message
received weeks ago
by my ex colleague
who never failed to
remind me about
things by saying
okay we understand
you have been around
before the invention
of technicolour,
who would get away
with saying things like
a care home must
have forgotten to go
searching in the
co-operative
to find their
missing person,
who would say
it's...

A letter to the non-binary community
I didn't need
to see a title
or press my ears
listening out for feet
patting down stone
upon arrival,
don't you see?
it's laced through
each of our bones
without a single
seam on show
so please, don't
go disappearing
too many people
try doing this for
their entire lives
even I tried on
a few occasions,
but we know better
than this don't we
dearest human?
this is exactly who
you were always
meant to be and ...

Travelling thoughts
Actually
it's your turn
I want you to have
the audacity of doing
something different
it doesn't require
fireworks, it doesn't
need a ceremony
but lend us a spark
out of your ordinary,
that's what us
humans need
most in this
world.

On the resilience of it
I watch raindrops
kissing my window
hear softness
tapping on glass,
I wrap myself in
this small moment
as I douse myself
into my cool bed
immersing my
raging skin in
the safety of it,
my thoughts turn
into salt water, my
body passes on
to the next wave
I lean into silence,
knowing how loud
the world is slowly
turning on it's axis
I remind myself
how my mind is
a blank flag,
how my body
turns into a riot
never stopping ...

It's five in the evening
There are worse
things than this
week, so I keep
those little fires
inside a lighter.

People prepare meals before a body dies
but never prepare
recipes when a body
begins to blossom.

It's hard being a part of everything
Especially when
your seat remains
empty at the scene
but filling the air
with questions
demanding
answers.

Worn out beats
I didn't need any
electronic music
playing in my
ear-phones
as I listened
to numbness
throwing up
in the toilet,
I watch her
throwing up
all her little
grey matters
thinking to myself
how it starts taking
the biscuit in the
brain department,
to watch somebody
end up becoming
an entire shitshow
only to find yourself
having to piece back
together all of the
wild nonsense
they want to
throw...

Ocular
I sit watching
feathers extend
in abstract flair
making shadows
on pavements
beneath trees
in full bloom,
I consider the
courageous
fuckery in
all of it
to remain
a shadow
that keeps
on dancing
as a yellow
Goliath belts
down to earth
with magnified
glass in hand.

The triplet tribe
There's twins
who regularly
do night shifts
inside my store
non-identical,
he's a jack
the lad type
always has
a comeback
for anything
thrown down
the headsets
and mumbles
like south-east
road men who
claim joggers
are clothes,
she's a quiet
kind of chick
always gets on
reserving her
opinions until
shift curtains
come to close
of course, always
filling me in on her
thoughts as every
member...

In my twenties
I thought I had
it figured out
but today
I breathe a
sigh of relief
knowing very
little about
anything.

This one's for the kid
who sat in
the corner
beating that
shadow on
the wall.
