POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have come to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubble gum.
I was sent an email by the tooth fairy
First off,
the audacity
of receiving such
an email around
three a.m. in the
morning
saying they take
my oral health
pretty seriously,
they don't wish
my mouth to end
up bleeding, as it
could be signs
of gum disease
they state proudly
in letters, bolded
and coloured in
red trying to
coerce me,
they continue on
warning me about
running the risks
of tooth decay
as I sit here
thinking about
all the shit I never ...

Lets pause the news and talk about the good shit for a moment.
because stepping out
of the shower with a
warm towel is good
receiving fresh bread
soft and warm out
of the oven is good,
those early morning
walks watching the
sun slowly rise up to
another day is good
and arriving home in
time for your favourite
TV show after a day
of hard grind is good,
a stranger helping you
pick up your belongings
off the floor is good
and can I get a hell yeah
for that pay day showing ...

Poly-zilla
She says she doesn't get polyamory
and I return back to reading just me,
just me at the tender age of six by
Silverstein as a curious little creature.
How I rolled my eyes getting older
hearing myself getting called
a home wreck or a fuck boy,
I would imagine myself growing
tall, stomping around restaurants
shoving human beings down the
well of my throat in one go
FYI: i'm not Poly-zilla.
So I asked her, how do you feel
when the sun begins to shine?
then she proceeded to tell...

This morning
I read a
poem about
nails tapping
into coffins
and I think
about how
many of my
siblings
hear the
same nails
tapping in
their lives
across a
pond
right
now.

Mother Brighton
It's February and i'm
here Mother Brighton
I already feel your purple
and blues rising to the
surface, bleeding like
no other month or
place ever could
I could never tell whether
it's instinct or coincidental,
as your arms widen knowing
i'm falling the fuck apart which
is the only metaphor my tongue
could pluck about bleeding
with a chance of violence.
It's February and i'm
here Mother Brighton
my hands slot heavy rocks
with splattered patterns in
two of my front...

My kind, your kind
For Samhain
I hear words falling in a world
pronouncing them dead,
I watch as proud little letters
slowly burn on this modern soil
as those stay at home humans
setting up tables, their lips firmly
closed, and staying small, keep
on haunting steel and stone as
they passed down all that
once lived through them.
If you wish to believe this skin
was made to roam inside
those limited of spirits
i'm afraid you are mistaken
because my kind is not your kind,
i'm a wide...

Bending the barrel
I rest my face in my hands
as endless airstrikes,
bombs, and missiles tear
into the ordinary lives
of Palestine,
knowing this country
was the second biggest
arms dealer since
2010 to 2019
most sales going
to the middle east
who are often the
largest buyers,
I won't sit here
like a hypocrite
knowing this
little island
this government
has caused
catastrophe
affecting the
lives of so many
families, and
children,

I came back to you today
feeling the curls
on the edges of
your pages,
where i've read you
backwards and
forwards
even upside down
hidden away
in my duvet
feeling past tears,
drunk saliva and
faded blood
blotches,
how they've
hardened your
chosen font as
it lays buried in
each paper I
turn over.
I came back to you today
knowing not much
can really console
this strange brain
how it rages daily
on both...

Ode to a little black coat
My arms grew
out of your seams
they cross over
my sides like they
could almost break
I pace concrete sweating
into another day, knowing
eight years of hard wear
is carrying a shipwreck
you were more than
sharp edges, lapels,
silk lining, a scruffy
collar raised up
you soaked up tears
waiting for boys in blue,
said never mind to snot
marks they left over
your shoulders
as they leaned
on you like a pillow,
keeping them warm
with fire you had ...

What if wonderland
was the underbelly
of the world alice
thought they knew
the rabbit hole
being the spine
they fell through,
alice watches
a pocketwatch
ticking inside
their ribcage
as tea slowly
pumps around
their blue china
thread veins,
further down
alice greets
a posse of
whispering
flower buds
that bloom slowly
singing golden
afternoon in
their stomach,
spinning around
as their blue and
white clothes
puff inside ...

Nirvana
It isn't much
no sounding alarms
aiding my bones
to rise up
the kettle boils,
I step outside into
the garden letting
everything unfold,
if there is a nirvana
it sounds like birdsong
as I close my eyes
inhaling through
my nose,
it looks like the
breaking of a
new day
as song thrush
bares witness to
tears meeting
my beige
patio
it was the most
peaceful song
I have ever
heard.
