POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have come to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubble gum.
If you must sit in that blue hue
I'm here to
remind you
billions of atoms
came smashing
together just
to create you,
ask yourself
what will you
create from
all of this
substance.
remind you
billions of atoms
came smashing
together just
to create you,
ask yourself
what will you
create from
all of this
substance.

I confess this heat is insufferable
the way it bends and breaks us
into leaving things left unspoken
last night, you confessed it would be
infinitely better laying by my side
in this overgrown garden
falling asleep watching the
starry sky in my arms
in that moment, I felt that garden
trying to crawl out of our opposite
signs alive
as air inside my body fans your words
rising up into flames;
from resigning on a split pole
never failing to draw
each other in.

The unanswerable
An interesting question
I seem to get asked is:
Do you wear
any other clothes?
you might take this
as somewhat rude
but I always felt
less spoke more
and no, I don't
believe it's due
to age or any
myths we will
often say to
ourselves
I feel life can be
so complicated
so dressing like
it does must have
passed this frame
I have to work with
truth is, I will never
leave without my
sunglasses so
if I forget those I
insist on...

Please write me down with your eyes
note the smile I gift
walking across these
white chlorine tiles,
did you believe I was broken
lost in strange text fonts
covered in hateful lies
does my irony upset you
as my scars dance naked
in broad daylight?
does my small frame offend you
as my body ripples water we
happen to share and glide
does my laughter slice
through your pupils
measured in media
sized ignorance?
please write me down
with your eyes,
my scars will
bare a smile
back at you.

The sign
told me I was ready
to embark on a quest,
that it will be a
lonely adventure
so I should adopt
breathing exercises,
ignore sharp objects
and write it all out
in fine ball pens,
it's been happening
longer than I can
remember.

Way of the water
I submerge into water
remembering
how I learnt to
point my toes
thumbs down
elbows up
feet turning into
little flippers in
a short space
of an hour,
learning to retrieve
bricks in the deep
end of a 25 m pool
how I never wanted
to return back home,
I wanted to dive
in just like my
heroes did
seeing Ian Thorpe
enter Olympic pools
like a giant Thorpedo
carving a few arm
strokes then doing ...

Sometimes
there's no good
internal rhyme
or reasoning
it just fucking is
for instance, you
can be Samson
for a whole year
but it doesn't make
anybody less Samson
for watching silver slice
itself through a mane
some grow that
shit for an entire
year, knew what
laid inside each
strand of hair
sure, some of
it can be painful
but I imagine good
things flashed in
your eyes too
as it all comes
crashing down
on...

The fiery god
I brush my nails
over amber bottles
making music
at eleven thirty
before my shift
slowly wraps up,
sometimes I still
taste those fiery
gods fuelling in
the back of
my throat
but they fly
out delicate
as monarch
butterflies
in summer.

A brief history in Mont Blanc
I guess some
will always find
time to stroke
many fountain
pens in one go.

The Fighting Heart
I've never put myself in
a boxing ring or heard
my name being chanted
but I guess I was born to fight,
in a way my mind always
asks the big questions
people never wish to be
asked or challenged on
so perhaps I was born to fight
sure I can blame the fucked
up background, I can discuss
bone-dust lingering beneath
the carpet, I can blame poor
guidance, I can blame my
mother taking off, my bastard
father, being left to my own
time ticking devices as a kid...

Four stages in perfecting glass
i.
I actually don't
blame you at all
for the confusion
that spits rage
from your lips
to know a great
deal about pain
leaving you with
sunburnt skin.
ii.
Sometimes we
don't realise that
we collect our
lived in pain
how we polish
and display it
all perfectly
inside of their
glass cabinets.
iii.
The hardest words
I was ever told was
"The right way is
always the hard...

Lessons in steel
I had a house
built out of steel
and people were
always welcome,
it didn't matter
what is was for
or how long it
had been since
they last visited
nowadays, I feel
like my body has
turned into that
steel house,
it doesn't matter
why they require
my shelter, doesn't
matter how long it's
been since they
last visited,
it doesn't matter
where we are
as we travel
on this earth,
this body too
is a home, there's
