POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I be an internationally acclaimed author of poetry, short stories and a novel.
The Pulpit
What I would not write is much
On the sullied cloak of the clergies.
My inkwell keeps running dry
Each time my quill feather
Is dangled in their direction.
A warning not to belittle
Or mock the modern day Pharisees
Because surely there are
A few good men in their lot.
Yet you should feel this in the heart.
Because therein lies your eternity
I care less of the
Of the fierce looking bobbies
And dogs guarding their calvacades
And mansions here on...
On the sullied cloak of the clergies.
My inkwell keeps running dry
Each time my quill feather
Is dangled in their direction.
A warning not to belittle
Or mock the modern day Pharisees
Because surely there are
A few good men in their lot.
Yet you should feel this in the heart.

A Place Called Tomorrow
There is a place called tomorrow
Where this set of politicians
Who claim we elected them
Will all be gone
Even the last trace of their names
Will be no more.
No need naming names
Or pointing fingers at them
You and I know them well.
In that place called tomorrow,
Even their distant seeds that dare
Shall whisper those names in shame.
There, our government will be
Occupied by those we actually chose
To represent our interest as a people
Not marionettes brought forward by any party.
A government that will...

Helpless
She now walks with a heart battered
Under the jagged distortion
Of her shadowy desires
Having realized love is masked
Beyond recognition like an ekpo
The fifth lover just left
As did the fourth and previous ones
Each taking a chunk
Of her innocence and age along.
She had built castles in the air
Of growing old with the first;
Of the second one nursing
Her first wound;
Of the third being different
From the rest;
Of the fourth being God-sent
And of the fifth
(That just left) being everything.

Hibernation
Muse has neither gone limp
In me like a manhood
At the peak of its use
Nor did my pen run dry
Like Esisi tributary in dry season.
It was only a period of hibernation
To prepares my wits
For the coming season.
Now my pen is erect
As if you were a naked maiden
Ready to ejaculate seeds of fire
Inside every open heart
Just the way Muse
Have been doing in me.

The Next Dance
The afterglow of the polls
Has refused to leave the sky
The euphoria like never before
Still tingles my countrymen.
Some are elated
At the dire switch
From "Business as usual"
Others draw gore
With their senseless machete
That victory does not befit the chosen
And they hide within fanaticism.
But the blood of the ten
And others are crying.
Come next dance,
The voice behind the heads
Of the vagabonds would
Come out like a masquarade
To dance again.
And voters will queue up again
Like...

Night Prayers
Again tonight, like a child,
I lie early beside my wife
Muttering prayer lines
Of innocence.
Not that I am unaware
Of the wild wild things
That happen at night
I just don't want
Any of them again.
Again tonight, like a child,
I lie early beside my wife
Muttering prayer lines
Of protection
"Lord, let us sleep
Like littles babes and
Wake up in our arms..."

Cold Dark Night
Lying there in
That single cloth
Wrapped around your chest
With nothing underneath
Is a sildenafilic turn on to me.
I turned your
Half-asleep body upward.
I am not starting with
A kiss tonight.
I began in the dim percolation
Of the room
With my hand finding
The hairy tarantula spider
So soft underneath at the verge
Where your two legs meet.
I slowly part your sleepy legs
And felt the warmth from within
And it was moist.
But I wanted a rain
So I unwrapped you
To suck at your breast
To...

The Essence of Man
The cockcrow again
To break a new day.
The way a chick
Breaks forth from
A newly hatched egg.
Life is the Morningstar
That shines forever.
The same river
That went this way now
Will soon be returning
To go the other way.
Life is a song
We already know.
Man is the song
We shall learn
And unlearn forever.
Man is the slippery catfish
You cannot freely grip.
Man bites like a wolf
And sting like a bee.
His heart is no more
In his left or right breast.

Inner Will
Heart ailing from difficulty
Mind annealing from hardship
I am enthralled
By it all.
This system holds you
Down by all means
Yet crumbles to your feet
Once from within
You break loose.
Mind annealing from hardship
I am enthralled
By it all.
This system holds you
Down by all means
Yet crumbles to your feet
Once from within
You break loose.

Japan
Japan, scorched by the
Hot anger of earth and sea
To shine forth like gold.

I am Water
Now my words fall
On your ears
Like water on
The back of a duck.
You swim in doubt
And distrust.
Whereas you have
Become the essence
Of my existence.
I am water all over
And that is the
Plain truth.
Yesterday, I returned
Home from work
To have you
Sniffing at me
In search of a
Stranger’s perfume.
You doubt, you curse,
You nag me to madness.
On your ears
Like water on
The back of a duck.
You swim in doubt
And distrust.
Whereas you have
Become the essence
Of my existence.
I am water all over
And that is the
Plain truth.

Who I be
I was who I was
When I did all that
When I live like
I wanted none of today:
Puffing
Sniffing
Sipping, gulping
Chewing
I was…
I be who I be today
Changed
Educated
Say what you may
Tomorrow, I will
To be who I will.
When I did all that
When I live like
I wanted none of today:
Puffing
Sniffing
Sipping, gulping
Chewing
I was…
I be who I be today
Changed
Educated
Say what you may
Tomorrow, I will
To be who I will.
