POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write with the stars imbued in the ink and shimmering across the page. I am gorgeous and so is my voice. Hear me.
Stars
Imagine your hands
and my hands
under a field
of too many stars.
Tell me about aliens and
tell me about your old life
tell me about the things that make you sad
I want to listen to you.
For now
I'm content to sit
under too many spotlights
and learn about you.
I want to become a story
that when in a field of too many stars,
you tell someone about your life
and I hope
that you have to smile
and tell them about me.
Imagine if I were a memory
tucked away with love
imagine if you loved me.
But for now I can live...
and my hands
under a field
of too many stars.
Tell me about aliens and
tell me about your old life
tell me about the things that make you sad
I want to listen to you.
For now
I'm content to sit
under too many spotlights
and learn about you.
I want to become a story
that when in a field of too many stars,
you tell someone about your life
and I hope
that you have to smile
and tell them about me.
Imagine if I were a memory
tucked away with love
imagine if you loved me.
But for now I can live...

Golden
I am not
The Golden Girl.
My eyes don't dance and
My hair doesn't shimmer.
I am not luminous in the golden hour.
I am not
The Golden Girl.
But I will dive beneath the sea
And I will become slick and iced blue.
Oh,
If I disappear
Behind the
Glassy waves at dusk
Cloaked in orange
Fire
If i ignite and burn out
Beneath a rising sun
With the night laughing
Behind me.
I will look into the
Fiery horizon.
And I will be
The Golden Girl
The Golden Girl.
My eyes don't dance and
My hair doesn't shimmer.
I am not luminous in the golden hour.
I am not
The Golden Girl.
But I will dive beneath the sea
And I will become slick and iced blue.
Oh,

Sunshine Girl
Feet tangled together
Legs intertwined,
My knees are against yours.
Our heads our thrown back laughing.
because everything is easy here.
It's easy and soft and mid afternoon sunbeams with you.
You're soft in the warm glow of 3PM
Your hair is falling over you like the waves fell over us.
I'm soft in the cold wash of 3AM
gooseflesh rising over me,
chasing your phantom fingertips down my arms.

gooseflesh rising over me,
chasing your phantom fingertips down my arms.

Too Many
Too many times
have I run my fingers through your hair
or knocked our feet together.
Too many times have I glanced at you
while she is all you see.
She's the one you see until you
turn your head and now it's me.
You're so warm and burning.
You're always burning someone you always
burn
burn
burn through me and you're
gone
gone
gone while the ice creeps its way down my spine.
You trail red heat wherever you look.
Too many times have I been burned
through to my core and melted
too often have I felt myself grow colder until...

Loathesome
I loathe you.
I hate you.
Despise. Detest.
I cannot fathom
these fabricated feelings
dwelling deep on dreary days
cooling me considerably
amidst a mild amethyst sky
and I spark and splutter
into fightless flame
igniting the indigo of
a setting september sun
and I cannot figure out why this
wondrous array of emotions of you
plagues me
when I loathe you
lifelessly.
Not loathing
in the littlest.

Cold
I was so cold
I was so cold when you told me your dad was dead
You leaned across me and
You pointed to his name on my laptop screen.
Your cologne stuck and burned the back of my throat.
My hands are so cold
You look so warm and I'm so cold
I want to wrap myself in you
I want you to be what I breathe every yesterday.
It was too warm.
The air was too thick and I was too warm.
Too warm to wear sweatpants
But I didn't wear shoes.
You didn't laugh but I laughed enough for us both.
I could be warm if I wrapped myself in you
I was so cold when you told me your dad was dead
You leaned across me and
You pointed to his name on my laptop screen.
Your cologne stuck and burned the back of my throat.
My hands are so cold

One Day
You were born in one day
You will die in one day
I will become we in one day
You will meet the love of your life in one day
You will get the best news
You will get the worst news.
You will gain a love
You will lose a love
In one day
Everything happens in one day
But which day
You will die in one day
I will become we in one day
You will meet the love of your life in one day
You will get the best news
You will get the worst news.
You will gain a love
You will lose a love
In one day

Old Souls
One day, you think.
One day I will be boring
It’s not like you look forward to it.
You sort of accepted it as fact.
You sneak a sip of mom’s coffee,
And you wish she’d add more sugar.
You listen to parents tell an anecdote about the bank,
And to your horror, you laugh with them.
You grip your own mug of coffee a little tighter,
And take it with a grain of salt.
You have responsibility now.
You make your morning coffee and go to school.
You drive alone,
Your hands drum on the steering wheel,
The radio blasting an 80’s pop anthem.
You...

An Open Letter To Young Girls
Little girl, keep your stones away from glass houses
Little girl, throw carefully, aim away from the delicate icicles hanging so close to the edge.
Little girl, it’s best to keep your pebbles to yourself.
Little girl, save the biggest rocks for last, do not wasted them on things previously shattered.
Little girl, guard the pebbles carefully, do not let the world steal them.
Little girl, the pebbles are few, choose what is broken.
Little girl, it’s best to not throw your pebbles at all, or they will be gone forever.
Little girl, keep them locked away, do not share...

Delicate
I had to be delicate.
Wear lace,
Wear pink,
tie my hair into an elegant updo,
or leave it down a certain way.
I had to wear dresses.
I had to be delicate for you.
I had to squeeze my curved corners
Into your sharp edged boxes.
I wasn't going to change my shape
My identity
Myself,
For you,
Until
I did.

untitled 5.18.16
Audacity. Adj. The daring boldness to defy limitations.
I have the glaring audacity to say I was in love.
I once had the audacity to be irrevocably in love.
It may come again, some rainy day in late July.
I’ll look at my friend eating ice cream
In a park with the rain pouring over us.
I’ll look over and the rain will glimmer off of their hair.
I fall in love too often, and I have the audacity
To fall in love with memories.
Ghosts. Shells of people who once were.
People who have the audacity to cling to my mind.
I will fall in love with a boy I have...
