POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I've written poetry all my life as a way to get out my emotions, but hit a wall and stopped for five years. I'm now finding my voice on paper/keys again, re-learning how to connect with people in verse.
Animal Hunch
Predator and prey in a race of survival;
A powerful pounce and crippling teeth,
Collapse, a pool of blood seeping into the earth.
Twitching limbs, painful convulsions --
To damage is an animal hunch.
Pawns and officers in a race for power;
A strategic move and unfortunate loss;
Collapse, a sorry soul cast into the stone.
Lost dreams, forgotten purposes --
To destroy is a side effect of humanity.
A powerful pounce and crippling teeth,
Collapse, a pool of blood seeping into the earth.
Twitching limbs, painful convulsions --
To damage is an animal hunch.
Pawns and officers in a race for power;
A strategic move and unfortunate loss;
Collapse, a sorry soul cast into the stone.
Lost dreams, forgotten purposes --
To destroy is a side effect of humanity.

Time's Dance
Ceaselessly, in endless dance you move,
Small hand, big hand,
Tick, tick, tock.
You who counts all time, and yet, in your own way,
Are timeless.
You with the translucent face
Incapable of feeling,
And yet full of expression,
As you chime away the days of our lives.
Perhaps the trick is in the mechanics;
Passing the time by passing the time.
You belong to no one age, to no one place,
But speak the truth in every language.
Too early ... too late ..so close!
Good morning, goodnight;
This is the beginning, and eventually...

Like a Dying Sun
I cannot undo what I have done,
Our love fades away like a dying sun;
In tattered pieces the remnants linger,
A ring boxed up to never grace my finger.
I cannot undo what I have done,
Do not deserve the heart that I once won;
In beautiful memories his smile shows bright,
But the present is shadows, all absence of light.
I cannot undo what I have done,
And no, I'm not the only one;
Our forever abandoned in a request for time,
Now spoken of only in the occasional rhyme.
I cannot undo what I have done,
And for...

We Met Over a Bouquet
A friendship abloom,
Abundant in artfully arranged gifts
and florist-delivered wit.
The air is fragrant with humor,
laced in nuanced sprays of sarcasm
with just a hint of sweetness.
Your bold, orchard-fresh words
pollinate the dark floret that is my soul,
Polluting it with colorful, long-stemmed clusters
Bound securely in oversized bows of cerise lace.
And so I find that you are unforgettable,
The now-rooted amaranth of my internal garden,
Sensationally showy and expressive.
You are a gift of nature's bounty,

Too Afraid
The fear of deception,
or perhaps of belief,
Is the one I place highest,
As it offers no relief.
The suspended paralyzation,
The inability to trust,
The discomfort of letting people close,
And yet knowing that I must.
The likelihood of being conned,
The probability of lies,
Is in the forefront of my mind,
"Be vigilant, be wise."
I push away opportunities -
for relationships, even friends,
Because I know disappointment would devastate me,
And that's not how my story should end.
T'is easier...

Lone and Cold
His cloak has been left in the hall,
But nothing else remains at all;
His scent has long faded,
smile deteriorated,
A memory I can barely recall.
His pillow has been left on the bed,
No longer tucked 'neath his head;
It rests lone and cold,
Full of dreams untold,
Alas, my dear husband is dead.
But nothing else remains at all;

Claret
Sweet and syrupy
it caresses my soul-
Trickling down the untouched chambers within.
Warming, dancing delightfully,
Liquid emotion.
Fuzziness envelops my mind.
I can hardly think to breathe,
and yet I breathe all life.
The snow, the bitter snow, no longer bites at my touch;
It welcomes me, beckoning me to indulge myself in its
Icy Embrace.
The crowds seem to part--
I see nothing and everything at the same time:
Blurred visions processed into clarity,
Clarity into Perfection.

Lips Wet with Wine
I love your lips when they're wet with wine,
Lightly glossed in sweetness to match your words.
Aged syrup clinging to the barest curves and lines,
Begging to be tasted, or so my heart discerns.
A small bead of liquid ebbing away,
On the verge of melting into his mouth, my bliss,
What fortune! I have managed it to waylay;
Indulgently stolen and claimed by my kiss.

When Wind and Winter Harden
When wind and winter harden,
When the landscape shines like glass,
When snowmen fill the courtyards,
And the days too quickly pass...
When fingers and hearts go numb,
When smiles fail to form,
When friends turn to the darkness,
And no fire can keep you warm..
Look inside your weary souls,
Dig -- find your inner light,
Inspire the ignition of passion,
Marvel in another's delight..
For in the bonds of innocent love,
We are forever at a beginning,
And when we wield mutual support,
There is nary an...

Thus Fades Youth
Ancient histories of pain
Inked into the fabric of his heart;
Long forgotten happinesses
Remembered in the laugh lines of his face.
While his eyes crinkle in merriment,
His lips downturn in lamentation;
Centuries of treasured romance and revelry
Muddied by an addled mind and ailing body.
Thus fades the bliss of youth,
Full of wonder and adventure;
Lost to the cruelty of age,
A stooped man on weary bones.
Inked into the fabric of his heart;
Long forgotten happinesses
Remembered in the laugh lines of his face.
While his eyes crinkle in merriment,
His lips downturn in lamentation;
Centuries of treasured romance and revelry

Lost to the cruelty of age,
A stooped man on weary bones.

As the Flame Flickers Out
How do you live within the confines of a man's heart?
The walls seem so impenetrable, and oft shrink without warning.
The air grows thin on nothing and you suffocate in an endless, echoing silence.
You try to decorate the space with your warmth, your love, your light,
But the darkness permeates even the farthest corners, to resist your every illumination;
How do you live within the confines of a man's heart?
You think yourself lacking patience, a failure, terrible with affections,
You spend countless nights in worry and in wonder, trying to...

I Alone
Cascading shadows pose:
Looming, threatening upon my ceiling
A vast abyss, empty and unforgiving
Enhanced with silence.
Their essence engulfs my every thought,
every vision.
Torment my soul--
Shred my dying life
from my bleeding heart.
I feel nothing.
I have nothing.
Chaotic illuminations of voided light
Claiming every faint pulsation--
Vainly resisting the demons within.
Fingerprints ornament the walls;
delving into unknown internal chambers
Spurts of crimson liquid spackling my innocence.
I crawl eternally~...
