POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Each time it is written, with each tap of a key. More words and more phrases to know the real me. But what yarns am I spinning, what tales do I tell? What's real, what's a facade, I'm not sure I know...but read along with me and just enjoy the show.
You, I or She?
- PART ONE -
This tale is a warning, about a vice and its woe,
Of the lesson I learnt, and the ones yet to know.
See, the end is unwritten, might be my final farewell,
To the good and the bad, to the heaven and hell.
But the tale should be told, and so I’ll commence,
I’ll be open and honest and try not cause offence.
The whole story started less than eighteen months ago,
With me overweight, out-of-shape and my self-esteem low.
I was awkward and sad but was so sick of my lot,
I’d work out to get thin; it was no...

PITCH
Sunshine, sparkle, rainbows, bright lights a-new,
The opposite of those things darkness brings to ensue.
Evil, macabre and sinister glares,
The old wicked witch awakes in her lair.
A cliché view of darkness once more,
The real dark times come from closing the door.
It creaks slowly back, the triangular shaft,
It dissipates slowly, along with the draught.
Not a light to be found, no candle to flicker,
No phone screen to glare, no backdrop of 'Twitter'.
No bulb shining brightly above your bonny head, ...

SPARKLE & DESTROY
SPARKLE JUST LIKE A DIAMOND,
GO ON - GLISTEN AND GLEAM.
KNIVES SPARKLE ALSO, THEY DESTROY,
CUT THINGS UP, MAKE 'EM SCREAM.

"AI"
I tried to divine an imine from amine - an unsublime crime - this time, sunshine.
What's mine I find is not of alkaline decline but line upon line of oleaginous slime.
My eyes fail to define in this clandestine design any hyaline shine.
In fact, it's benign - perhaps strychnine, I repine.

AUTO-PROMOTION
Sorry I’m late, I’ve just hopped off the plane,
Was summoned for skills that have brought me much fame
I was in Greenland. Yes really, an unusual place to go,
Because I’m the best salesmen in the world, you know
Why was I there? Well, selling snow of course,
Snow! I know, their most common natural resource
To the Eskimos nonetheless, they bought a truckload,
I’ve a new product for you, your mind’s gonna explode.
It’s young, fresh, exciting, fun, playful and stunning,
You better snap up this deal now before it goes...

TOGETHER
Darling! You're not listening to me: I had to do it,
It wasn't a choice, honey - I didn't choose shit!
Listen, I just really don't want to go on about that anymore,
I want to know about you, How are you? I'm cool, what's the score?
Are you sure you're okay? You've lost weight I can see,
Are you coming down with something? Are you ill? C'mon tell me.
What? Why are you harping on about that again?
I've told you already, I had to. You'll want dinner soon, just say when.
Okay, okay. It was because she...

SEE NO EVIL
Children mustn’t be scared and so are told lies,
The tales all end happy, and the hero survives.
Sugar-coating is a curse, the true tales are soon told,
Of bitter ruin and darkness, with bodies lain cold.
Snow White gets her kiss, Sleeping Beauty wakes up,
Alice comes back to our world as if just by luck.
But the final spin covers up a much darker reveal,
For Alice stays trapped at the end of her ordeal.
In Wonderland she remains, a bitter nightmare,
The horrors she sees would give you a scare
She sees them for...

HEAD
Quick, quick, quick. Slow.
Too fast now.
You take instruction well.
Don't let that go to your head.
That's not my job.
What's yours?
Elusive. Speak, damn it.
I retract, too harsh...
Expect trailer trash.
Brash.
Learn your words,
I compel education.
Fascism, you say,
Judgmental, I say.
Agree/Disagree
Stalemate,
Chess:
Rooks, Knights, Pawns
...Your Queen has fallen.
Crash.
The Poem is over.

AMOR FATI
The key to life is a curse,
And these curses are key,
A key to life without curse,
For keys are cursed, you see.
And these curses are key,
A key to life without curse,
For keys are cursed, you see.

TREASURE
When you say you can take trash and turn it into treasure,
Sadly, the opposite statement we must also endure.
For one person's treasure remains trash to me,
And I do mean this poem to be taken most politely.
Buttercups, bales of hay, bleating in the sun,
How could one argue with such springtime fun?
Golden, fanning petals look upon clear blue sky - Delight!
Sheep and lambs graze, wool coats catching the light.
Meanwhile...as we bask in such a wonderous sight,
A boy with a tissue is given a fright.

THE BOX, THE BODY AND THE BEAST
Rows and rows of boxes all spruced and lined up,
Each one has been checked and well-labelled enough.
They shine so invitingly with historical backing,
Each label firmly designated what's under the wrapping.
If you get the right box, or wrangle it somehow,
You're set for life, no questioning what, when or how
You see the boxes were written before you and me,
They've stacked themselves up throughout history.
Some forming newly, some fading fast,
Some are more stalwart and others smash like glass
We must respect that...

THE CREATURE BEHIND THE CURTAIN
The curtain was pulled, wrenched off and peeled back,
No ordinary curtain, we know that's a fact.
What lay behind cannot be placed into language,
That's the entire point you see, words cannot vanquish.
The curtain of course, is one you know well,
You see it day by day and it covers nighttime as well.
It's all you've ever known and most likely will do,
Madness they call it, when you can see through.
Darker than black, crisper than glass,
The curtain blockade that some might trespass.
But trespass you may, leave your...
