box cutter in hand

I will no longer participate
...in the grand illusion
not going to walk someone else's definition
...of the right path
it's too monochromatic
their truth doesn't fit me
their idea of normal...
...invalid in my universe
I'm tired of being compartmentalized
boxed in
trying to squeeze myself into their ideals
attempting to shrink my dimensions
struggling to be big enough
unsuccessfully stretching
...attempting to reach their unrealistic shelves
I'm done
time for...

don't rock the boat"
seriously...
do you even know me...
clearly we've never met
hello...
how about an introduction
born under Cancerean skies...
I am a water baby
swimming in the womb
driven by the Moon
I know I look like still waters
but I'm a turbulent ocean
which makes me...
...a wild card
I'm not concerned about rocking
{or even capsizing} ...

because...truly...

words finally recede
like fog rolling across the water
as sun tickles the surface
glimmering flickers of hope
tugging at shallow breaths
teasing...
...more...
I know you've got it in you
come on
breathe deeper
fill those aching lungs
& get up
!!
the pillow lies rumpled & abandoned
sheets cooling
where the shape of me still lies
comfort left behind
it's the start that's the hardest
facing the unknown
...is a daily occurrence
some days... ...
words finally recede

my revelations of expansion
what I've discovered
so far
bullet points...if you will
though by no means...the full spectrum

I'm strong enough to handle almost anything
...but I don't have to do it all alone
it's okay to ask for help

being accepted as I am...is beautiful
..but as is...isn't enough for me
I will always strive for further evolution

I'm doing the best I can
but...
I'll be honest
I mistrust beauty
it's been too unkind to me
pretty smiles & lovely words
lack a certain depth
hollow...shallow
just empty props...
taken at face value
remove the glamour
...then let's talk
show me those scars
...makeup off
the gaping
the ugly
the raw
we all have them
I'm not interested in the mask
...impeccably detailed
I want the real

attraction lives in vulnerability's...
I'm doing the best I can
but...

cowered but not a coward

today...
...is not okay
I'm firing only blanks
struggling to process...
...words...thoughts...life...
walking to another room
& when I arrive
forgetting...why...
starting a list
not remembering what I'd planned to write
I just want to curl in a ball
stare at the wall
& let the day pass me by
catch a cab for tomorrow
skipping the morass of now
but...
...since that isn't an option...
one foot...then the other
keeping it moving
I'm doing the best I can
today...

maybe...

you don't think about it much
not when everything still hurts
what happens after
you focus on the pain
bruises...burns...& fractures
on getting through that day
& the next
trying to understand what went wrong
was it you...or them
or a toxic combination
but when wounds stop aching
& shadows fall back
horizon looking a little brighter
that's when possibility presents itself
& your head tips to one side
in silent contemplation
&...
you don't think about it much
not when everything still hurts
what happens after
you focus on the pain

...in those early days
how much they're prepared to do
the time they're willing to invest
...to secure your affections
beyond that...
listen closely...
when the standard previously set
no longer matches current behavior
it isn't a reflection of your worth
merely a shift in their attention
believing you caught...
& their time no longer required
they...drift
if your place in their priorities
no longer meets satisfaction
don't assume it's anything you...
they show you
...in those early days
how much they're prepared to do
the time they're willing to invest

blindfolding reality

I felt the weight of the words
like a boulder on my shoulder
pressing down on me
rather frequently
you should have known better
but...
there's another side to every equation
have you ever wanted something
badly enough you turned a blind eye
willing to strike the match of your own pyre
drinking the cyanide with a whiskey chaser
pretending the resulting burn...is yearning
while sweet demise was all you tasted
& still you clung to the lie
because craving overshadowed truth
no attempt made...
I felt the weight of the words

in memory forever
some accusations stain
misunderstood...badly translated
it's hard to explain
why can't you just accept it
let yourself be loved
it's complicated
& painfully simple
but I don't know where to start
once upon a time...
{not so very long ago}
...as the story goes
I loved like a warrior
ardent & unrelenting
...but in full armor
poured my love into their open hands
giving them everything I am
beautifully...

when my heart is engaged
you're never temporary
you...are a part of me
& if one day you should depart
a piece of you will remain
your essence...like osmosis
inspiring & adding to my enirety
as you saturate
becoming an eternal part of me
& I'm grateful
for whatever time we are given
hold very dear these moments we share
embedding them into my foundation
strengthening my pillars
building with compassion
& connection
more solid...ever better
together... ...
when my heart is engaged

there is beauty found in a sense of belonging
so long as translation isn't...
...ownership
{unless that's the agreed upon dynamic}
I've never wanted to be a bauble in a vault
...locked away unseen
I'm a treasure to be proud of...
...even though I don't actually need...
...{or feel comfortable}
...being on display
...it's the thought...see?
to be clear...
it isn't even about safekeeping
no...it's so so much more than that...
bigger...freer...just more
a connection...a landing...
