Ok so I got into poetry a few years ago during a depression. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from one of my favorite bands, Rise Against. I am open to criticism, and would love advice on how to make my poems better.

A Bright Future Because of a Dark Past
Look to the future
Hide from the past
A miracle I
This long have last
The slightest of things
Still set me off
Musical phrases
The way people scoff
I need some help
To let it all go
Be who I was
And stop this whole show
A joyous child
Never sorrowed
But past events

Too much to handle
All on my own

I'll like you for always
As long as I'm living

Now it seems it's all my fault
'Cause when I always try to halt
No matter what I say or do
I always end up hurting you
It seems I can't do anything right
Can't lose the hurt can't lose the fight
I wanna run away from it all
'Cause I never want again to fall
Even with how close we are
it always feels like we're too far
'Cause even when I try to help
All that come are fights and yelps
Abandon I always will be
No one around no one to see

The face is familiar
But the name is so far

Suppressing the cries
Muffling the screams
The Land of the Free
What does it mean
The people aren't heard
The children aren't saved
Now the road
To destruction is paved
Spiraling downwards
Losing to fast
The qualms of the nation
That always should last
Equality for all
That's what has been said
But all of these Thoughts
Have been laid to bed
Living by lies
That are told everyday
Now shackled and bound
It's here we must stay
Where none know the truth
But all think we know
