POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Value
Isave up my words
Thrifty as I am
I gather them from the usual places
Hidden in the seams of my diary
Shadowed in the seal of my silent lips
I listen to them echo as they fall
Of the tip of my tongue
Into a jar that once overflowed with promises
I want to exchange those words
For a currency you value
Even more than me
Thrifty as I am
I gather them from the usual places
Hidden in the seams of my diary
Shadowed in the seal of my silent lips
I listen to them echo as they fall
Of the tip of my tongue
Into a jar that once overflowed with promises
I want to exchange those words
For a currency you value
Even more than me

Haunted Words
(See if you can find the ghost in the poem - clue - its a poem within a poem)
Your
words haunt me
Their
promises echoing down corridors
Crunching
underfoot like broken glass
Leaving
red wounds on unprotected skin
Blood
stained syntax is irremovable
Seeping
through to unused diary pages
Why won’t you whisper louder?
Verbs
are vibrating in the silence
The
sound of my pulse rushing in my ears
I
catch a glimpse of consonants clinging to cobwebs
...

My Wings
I have been searching for my wings
Burdened by the phantom weight
Straining on my shoulder blades
On the edge of the reality
And the philosophy
Of who I really am
I am a flightless bird
Caged by logic
The iron chains of history
Are my jewellery
I have felt those wings
Beating with my heart
The feather touch whispers against my skin
Yet I am blindfolded to what lies within
How is it that all is unveiled before you?
I keep leaving my feathers
...

For you, where you are now...
When you left there was so much empty space,
Yet everything was still left in it habitual place.
When I saw the mirror void of your grace,
I wanted to fill it, frame to frame with photos of your face.
I found your empty chair.
Underneath your slippers sat, a waiting pair.
Leather worn to your shape, a stand of your hair.
Somehow you were still there.
All the watches still ticking on.
Waiting for no one.
Knowing all that you was, all that you had done,
Is not yet gone.
There is no vacant space in my heart,
where we never part....
Yet everything was still left in it habitual place.
When I saw the mirror void of your grace,
I wanted to fill it, frame to frame with photos of your face.

Coming of Age
We came of an age
That grew rotted out in its over thought
Obscure and unprecedented
We a woke on our birthday
And decided to be noticed
We grew it from a cesspit of insecurities
We fractured its bones
Allowed ourselves only stunted growth
And stitched up its seems with depravity
We fed it on drugs and cheap alcohol,
Cigarettes now the pacifiers on the tweens and teens
It grew deformed, stewing in its sickness
Desecrating the landscape with its filth
For children born to children
A playground constructed out of the broken glass...

The red hour
Little red,
Lipped girl,
Tip toed,
Time ticked.
Tempted to take,
Treacherous track
That traitors do tread.
Rose red and snow white,
Canines glimmer.
In the sweet wine of,
His last victim.
It was not me.
It was not I.
Lick the lips,
Red hooded girl.
The wolf has hunted,
Time,
Starved in stillness
Shouldn’t you be running?

My Small Skull
My small skull,
cannot tell you how many hands cradled it.
held it up to the light,
To see the pale blue moon of my eyes.
My elongated fingers,
will not whisper,
of the world they have touched .
They are not my identity,
they’re not the ends of me.
My tiny tapping toes ,
cannot grumble of there woes.
Of all the paths they’ve been,
they have not walked all my journeys with me.
My skin.
Silent now.
Will not tell you my secrets,
of those I have touched.
It knows not,
all those that I have reached.
My body cannot...
cannot tell you how many hands cradled it.
held it up to the light,
To see the pale blue moon of my eyes.

Sun Child (For the Blind Sunrise Challenge)
I press my hands over those sightless,
Restless, eyes.
I whisper in setting sunlight.
“Forget what the world has told you.
What you might see.
Just remember that you are like the sun.
When it sets,
it does not know its path,
it too knows fear,
of the unknown darkness.
The sun only knows what it touches,
its reach maybe further than yours,
but it too knows
what it is
For it’s home to be a stranger.
If it could,
the sun could tell you how,
when it eases into the ocean,
it wonders how far its depths reach? ...

The Fighter
You came to us,
not with your heart on your sleeve,
but in your hand.
It’s red robust rhythm,
with its welcoming wholesome warmth,
they’d never seen such singular strength.
Pure and perfect in your palm,
it shimmered and shone like a star.
They envied its power,
which they’d never be able to grasp.
They came at you with their hungry hands,
breaking away pieces of you,
trying to take away who you are.
You didn’t know it then,
but one day you will,
be so much more than many men may have dreamed of.
No one can fight on like...
not with your heart on your sleeve,
but in your hand.
It’s red robust rhythm,
with its welcoming wholesome warmth,
they’d never seen such singular strength.
Pure and perfect in your palm,

Condense
When I need you
I know
You won’t be there
You are like breathing
My lungs labour to keep
You within the cage of bones
Next to the warmth of my heart.
When I have to release you
In a sigh
A ghost of a hope
The icy mist of smoke
Condensation on the chilled window
Within you I draw a heart
It weeps our initialsSmudged
Like our identity
My fingerprints remain pressed against the pane
All remnants of you drops of moisture
That I press a parody of a kiss to my lips
I know
You are not here
Not when I need you
I know
You won’t be there
You are like breathing
My lungs labour to keep
You within the cage of bones
Next to the warmth of my heart.
When I have to release you
In a sigh
A ghost of a hope
The icy mist of smoke

Our Words
Our words fell as the autumn leaves
Beautiful and useless
They are colourful like fires around me
I threw myself back into them
Arms stretched
Self trusting and ignorant
Into the cruel cold snow
My tears frozen words on my cheeks
I’d keep them for you
But they melted away
With the springs gentle rays
Caressing my face
As the earth interwove flowers to my hair
Covered my naked tree with buds
Half formed words waiting to be heard
I walk on foals legs stumbling and unsure
Dirty, grass strained the perfume of the world
Clung...

Hollow Heart
Safe inside this hollowed out heart,
I curl, into myself like an infant.
These Walls an arms width apart,
Unexpectedly I shiver in this vacant
Vastness , these echoes grow faint.
Shuddering in thier seclusions
These fist clenched heart beats do taint
The last drumming of our epitaths illisusions
This was once a love song.
Alll the empty dust sugared places,
Hidden away all heart wrong.
Where you, I, us, who we were before
Our love, this ache, and this still open door.
I curl, into myself like an infant.
These Walls an arms width apart,
Unexpectedly I shiver in this vacant
Vastness , these echoes grow faint.
Shuddering in thier seclusions
These fist clenched heart beats do taint
The last drumming of our epitaths illisusions
This was once a love song.
Alll the empty dust sugared places,
Hidden away all heart wrong.
Where you, I, us, who we were before
Our love, this ache, and this still open door.
