POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Death calls
Phone rings,
sister cries.
Blunt force trauma to the heart.
Pride goeth before the fall,
spiraling out of control.
Harsh reality no comfort at all.
I dial.
The inflicted becomes the inflicter.
Breaking hearts across the wires.
Summoned we drive.
So near seems so far.
The world is blurred.
Arrival brings no relief.
Uniformed strangers don't share our grief.
Death has come in the night like a thief,
yet, it is the dead who are judged.
Still more calls to make.
Still more hearts to...

Birth of a Storm
The blue of day
washes away
scrubbed clean by
Gray clouds
Raindrops riding on
winds back
wrap lightly on
window panes, tin roofs, and parched concrete
Quiet calm takes hold
Except Birds
Flying about to be bathed
Singing and dancing on the air
Inside my eyes are heavy
watching the drips
drop slowly down
the slider doors
My eyelids
slide slowly
towards the floor
Drips like drums
increase the beat
The sky opens its mouth to sing
A low rumbling voice
Lights
inside and out...
washes away
scrubbed clean by
Gray clouds
Raindrops riding on
winds back
wrap lightly on
window panes, tin roofs, and parched concrete
Quiet calm takes hold
Except Birds
Flying about to be bathed
Singing and dancing on the air
Inside my eyes are heavy

Backyard Tree
There is a Tree in our backyard
Her Leaves are full her Wood is hard
The Kids the Cats they Love to climb
Lay in Her Branches passing the time
Her Roots run deep
Her Branches are strong
Her Life Her Greatness both will be long
I Love the Tree in our backyard
Her Leaves so full Her wood so Hard
Her Leaves are full her Wood is hard
The Kids the Cats they Love to climb
Lay in Her Branches passing the time
Her Roots run deep
Her Branches are strong
Her Life Her Greatness both will be long
I Love the Tree in our backyard
Her Leaves so full Her wood so Hard

Fall Senses
Leaves swoosh at my feet
Falls sweet sent fills my bosom
Crisp air warms my soul
