POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Darker tendencies, complete with metaphorical bliss.
The Gunner
There once was a young lady named Fi
Who tried to gun down and kill me
I had done her no harm
And I was not alarmed
Until holes through my head I found three!
Who tried to gun down and kill me
I had done her no harm
And I was not alarmed
Until holes through my head I found three!

Rotten
That damn branch is quite a horrid eye soar,
Pray go break and burn it and make it no more.”
“I would do it of course, for it sounds like quite fun,
But why not make it a job for our lazy son?”
“Boy come here right now! See that tree over yonder?
Remove the rotten branch, and please don’t be a bother.”
“But Mother, that branch is the oldest of them all!
Rotten it’s true, but it grew the tree tall!”
“Go on Son, get out, just pull at it and twist,
It must be done now, quit throwing a fit.”
So he pulled at the branch with all of...

Ghosts in the New World
There are no ghosts in the new world,”
The immigrant beamed and said,
“Surely no ghosts in this new world,”
Haunted through my brimful head.
“Look at the buildings tall and straight,
They seemingly pierce the heavens,
Look at the sky blue and clear,
And the massive synthetic reflections.”
“Look at the men in suit and tie,
Who line the pavement with their feet,
Models of effective perfection
Hazel hair short, smart, and neat.”
“There are no ghosts in the new world,”
Again he smiled and said,
“For sure no ghosts in this new...

Damn Memories
Memories
My greatest enemy,
Always there and forcing me to see
The man I once was,
The man I can no longer be.
Crippled to my knees
Memories won’t set me free
My traitorous mind
Always reaching for the things no longer mine
Making me see lost time
Clouding my dark future with the bright haze of the past
Leave me alone
My greatest enemy,
Always there and forcing me to see
The man I once was,
The man I can no longer be.
Crippled to my knees
Memories won’t set me free
My traitorous mind
Always reaching for the things no longer mine
Making me see lost time
Clouding my dark future with the bright haze of the past
Leave me alone

White Ant (Cry, the Beloved Country)
He sought courage to speak to someone
They spoke to him in a language that he did not understand
The young man was silent awhile
He looks up at the cloudless sky
Behind the polished paneling the white ant eats away the wood
“All we ask is justice.
God save us from the fear that is afraid of men.”
“You shouldn’t sit by yourself,” She said,
“Are you in health?”
“I am afraid,” he cried, “I am afraid!”
In the dark and silent forest there is a leaf that falls.
“Happy be the eyes that can close,
But whether we be fearful or no-“
Who can enjoy the...

Estella
Estella who I have always loved
Battered my being against her cold, hard heart
Like a moth uselessly flinging itself
Against a light never lit
Estella who I have always needed
Maybe a vindictive lust to put myself down?
Like a bird that knows the trial of flight
But flies flock less
Estella who I have never hurt
Cuts me into obscure pieces of myself
How do I feel so strongly about one
Who swears no feelings
Who breaks through my patterns
Who blows my cover
Who destroys my composure
Who rushes my hand
Who rushes my heart...
