POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
It's just so sad
you don't really want to grow apart
hell, any guy will tell you that
you know there ain't nothin' better on the other side of the fence
you were there
she was there
and now the two of you are here
and there's the rub
that you are two
not the one y'all planned to be
forever
and you wake in the six a.m.
ready for a sex a.m.
but you are the only one up
she needs to sleep
you respect that
you don't disrespect her
you don't go mistressin'
you go it alone ...

Some Truth
I was once at a meeting (you guess what kind, and if you can't then I suggest you count that as a blessing) and a guy said if we all threw our problems in the center of the room none of us would want anybody elses when it came time to pick them up.
Yeah, if you still ain't flashin' to this type of group you may as well stop here. Go surf the web or some other wholesome vanilla shit.
I got as far as I could in those rooms.
Then I went out.
Stepped back to the program but I knew I needed something more personal.
Picked up...

Who do you think you are
That is who you are
Oh- another won't let you be who you want to be?
That's who you are
One who gives control to another
Seventy thousand dead (so far) in the Syrian fighting
The Government offers the Rebels truce
The Rebels say "No truce with murderers"
as the Government uses chlorine gas to wipe out an unsupportive town
Crashing through the corralling carapace of control
Rebel to Freedom Fighter to Liberator

Adam's Aggravation
Got this pain in my back
Halfway down the spine
off to the right
It's like a rib of hurt
Been two weeks now
Got acupuncture
Got massage
Got chiropractic
adjustment
Seems gone for a
few hours,
half a day, after each treatment
Then it is...ahem...back
Just now,
as I was attempting to
excrete the illness
(and reading Bukowski)
a thought occurred:
The problem is not
of me
I am simply a symptom
It is the World
that is out
of joint

AO Personality
Sam did contract work for the Goverment in Nam, Angola, Rhodesia, Budapest and so on.
I notice when he comes to teach a firearms class he comes in an up mood- "Howdy, howdy, howdy".
I know he has been shot seven times. Didn't all happen at the same time.
First two hits were from an AK47. We ain't talkin' .22 cal. nuisance holes.
Now, in his sixties, he don't sleep two hours consecutive. Needs constant meds for ongoing pain.
Point is as he enters a milieu he takes subtle control of the vibe.
Makes it light while haulin' heavy...

The Word
When it's coming through
When you can't put the pen down
'cause you have to keep getting it down
When everything paper
gets scribbled on
and
you need more pens, pencils, crayons,
chalk, paint (spray can type)
When you are writing at traffic lights
hoping the next one is red
and
all the others after it
'cause it is flying in, flying out
and
you know it won't be back
the same
ever again
and
it keeps coming
and
you keep chronicling
You think it's endless
inexhaustable
then
you try to control it (first...

Sharon Frost
Pale, smooth unblemished skin
Thin, straight nose line
Smiling, cupids bow lips
Hair so blonde it was almost white
Blue eyes, not piercing, happy, kind
She invited me to her house
There was a problem with the
cupboard hinge
'Could I fix it?'
I didn't know how
Told her and her mother
'I was sorry'
Went home,
never went back
Always felt
I left something there
Intangible, irretrievable
We were 14 that year
Now, 60 days from 56th birthday,
it seems it happened
last...

Souvenir
I was 11 years old and usin' an xacto knife. That's a razor blade affixed to the end of an aluminum stick. Cuttin' larger the rear wheel openings in a plastic model '55 Chevy. Gonna give this one big back tires.
Sharp edge slips from toy into my wrist. I look at the pink line then the red floods it open. 'This might be bad', I think.
Squeezin' it together. As the squeezin' hand starts to fill up I make a decision. I need help.
My father is in the crapper. He and I have had our moments during my life. Most of them have been combat natured. I don't want to...

Cherubim Material
We sang together, Mary and I
Downstairs, in the church
under St. Joan of Arc grade school
Don't remember the hymns
Latin words
Sounds, mostly
Just know
our voices
vibrated as one
Moving through the heavens
Giving angels pause
Makin' the Creator proud of His children
Aye, His children we were
8 years old
and earning our wings

Bar Talk
Frank hadn't been in this part of town before. Was lookin' for an address someone gave him. S'posed to be a guy with Ironhead parts for sale. Havin' trouble findin' it.
So he parked in a warehouse area. He was about to open his trunk to get a map when he heard a voice say "You bein' robbed". Turned to see a teenager about three feet from him ("guess my hearing's startin' to go", he thought).
Saw the kid's buddy hovering five feet back on a bicycle. Homegrown holdup team, huh?
Frank right foot stepped in and left hand palmed the barrel...

then the suicides started
internet went down years ago
wild rumors why
electro virus
alien meddling
no matter
it ain't ever comin' back
water systems shut down
fuel systems
food systems
all automated
all off
nuclear plant backups ran dry
leaks began
rads off the scale
everywhere
everything edible has been eaten
except roaches, rats
and
people
some fight
some feast
some choose to die by their own hand
hard to imagine any God
callin' such an act
a sin

Recycling unused items a daily way of existence
Sweet, delicate perfume of wild flowers drifting about on soft breezes
Fish populations regenerating exponentially
Eco-efficient, self renewing power (hydro-water systems, solar electricity, windmill generators) free to all
Every orphan adopted
Religious divergence resolved to everyone's satisfaction
Global warming at a standstill
Doctors Without Borders a world wide service, sans cost
Green growing on any land not used otherwise
Fossil fuels outdated
