Can I lay next to you,
Keep you safe while you sleep?
Can I hold your hand,
If you need to weep?
Can I hold you late at night,
And marvel at how lucky I am?
Can I listen to your every word,
With the promise that I'll always understand?
Can I call you beautiful,
When you're feeling low?
Can I dance with you,
When our song is on the radio?
Can I be that someone,
That you can't wait to see?

Beautiful in every way
You smell so good,
You look so fine,
Your voice is like music,
You're sublime.
Your smile makes me grin,
Your laugh makes me roar,
Your walk makes me remember
What I write poetry for.
Your mind is original,
Your thought is so true,
Your words make think
I could really like you.
You are a dream,

An angel in my eyes,
I'm secretly hoping you're an animal in disguise.

I accidentally clicked on Safari instead of Firefox this morning, and your facebook opened. I wasn't paying attention cos the TV was on and I was expecting a message so I opened them. Make an effort,
Or look like I don't care?
Spend hours on picking a shirt?
Hours on doing my hair?
Do I pretend I don't really mind,
That this effort wasn't for you?
Or do I just over do it,
And pray you think it's cute?
Ok, I'm well out of my depth,
And you're well out of my league,
But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna try,
Come on, take a walk with me.

It's so damn hard
It's so damn hard,
Being high as a kite from tickle fights,
The crashing down,
With the mention of a name that gives me apprehension.
It's so damn hard,
Learning to turn on a smile that burns,
The fake one,
That not even you can see through.
It's so damn hard,
When in the mirror you look and all you can see is the wrong path you took.
The disastrous one,
All I can see is a bad person staring back at me.

When I can charm birds out of trees, except for the one I really want with me.

I dreamt of you,
Your body arching,
Your eyes meeting mine,
After I take it all in.
I dreamt of a wink,
As you disappear into another room,

But leaving with me with sweet memories.

Take a walk with me,
Let's just talk about nothing,
I'll show you where I go to think,
It's not far from here.
You can trust me, honestly.
I know you'll hear differently,
But this is different.
Come on, let's do something.
Coffee for two?
I like mine so strong it's a health risk,
How do you want yours?
Let's go stand on the cliffs,
And I'll point out special places.
This is so different.
There's nothing so comforting,
As sitting in complete silence,
Not needing to say a word.
Lay out under the stars...

They can all pass me by,
While I think about,
The gleam in your eye.
Seconds, hours, minutes,
Not really a lot of time,
They haven't done a thing to you,
You're still in your prime.

I'll give them all to you,
I don't want a lot in return,

What If
When playing 'what if' the rules always change
No real life situation ever stays the same,
Life becomes different, alters somehow,
And you forget the feelings of the here and now.
'what if I'd have gone slow, what if I'd played it cool?
What if I'd never told her she was beautiful?
What if I'd never let that one get to me?
What if my feelings had never been hers to see?'

What if we'd never been friends, she wouldn't know about me.

I didn't think of you every second today,
I didn't hope you'd walk in the door
I didn't pour your drink and think of you,
I didn't see people who reminded me of you,
I didn't think of you when I saw a mutual friend.
I didn't ignore everyone in the room in favour of thoughts of you.
I didn't not look at women because I couldn't see anything but you.
I didn't spend any time sulking about a love lost.
I didn't think of you every second,
I didn't realise that until I thought about you
I didn't let a day go by that I didn't think of you.

Big Fish in a Small Pond
For two years now,
I've been a very big fish,
In a very small pond.
Learning, teaching, doing.
For two years now,
I've been having days and nights
I'll never remember,
With people I'll never forget.
For two years now,
I've been a star pupil,
An ear to listen,
A shoulder to cry on.
But those two years are over.
Those two years are done.
Time to say goodbye to it all,
And jump out of this pond, into a much bigger one.
