When People Don’t Talk
When people don’t talk
The space between words widens
What’s left unsaid takes on new meaning
All the things I thought you meant
Now mean…something
And I’m left to fill in the blanks myself
Because you choose not to say anything
Maybe you think you’re protecting me
Or you’re ashamed
Or you’re angry
Or you don’t want me to have feelings for you
You might have misunderstood something I’ve said
Flawed humans mirror flawed humans
We’re all clinging to the same life raft
So we tango
But we...

The relentless search for answers
Not giving up the fight
Not. Giving. Up.
When is enough, enough?
That was his question
While he looked intently into my eyes
Kindness, compassion, concern
Stamped across his face
The loss of my core self, who I am
My identity has always been fragmented
My beliefs, my values
How I perceive my own thoughts
All of it
Constantly shifts unbeknownst to me
Until after the fact
Just that...

The Guest House
The door opened slowly
The sound of music familiar
I made my way down the dimly lit hall
Stepping through dark, heavy curtains
I was greeted with the scent of ylang ylang
The soft glow of amber candlelight
His magnificent body on the four poster bed
Resplendent in a black silk robe
And his wicked smile
The glint in his eyes dark and foreboding
I set down my suitcase
My breath escaping in a silent plea
How did the heavens know?
Healing comes in all shapes and sizes

I Spent the Day Thinking About You
The universe
In all her infinite wisdom
Reminds me not to stray
A beaten path has it’s purpose
I’m of a different cloth
Stitched together by my own hand
A patchwork of pain
Love, longing, togetherness
Your magnetic pull almost capsized me
And to think I spent the day thinking about you
I dared to imagine waking up next to you
I swore I heard the man in the moon laugh
I walk the earth alone
My feet battle worn and scarred
Their resting place will be the darkness that follows ...

Where are the real souls
Unafraid to be themselves
Scarred and raw with honest words
Why are hands more often open
Than hearts and minds
More willing to take than share
What happened to unapologetic truth
Finding joy in less than more
Opening windows rather than closing doors
Who said it was okay
To make emotions unavailable
In the name of not getting hurt
I’d give my next heartbeat
To receive true sincerity
But it seems these days that’s a rarity
Unafraid to be themselves
