POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
Expressing myself in words is one of my most valuable skills.
Opposite ends
Opposite ends again
I struggle with letting it out
You can't hold anything in
I'm too weary to go back and forth
You're missing the point;
I don't care if I win
I'm tired of sitting around
But I can't get you out of the house
It's a battle every time
I've decided it's not worth the fight
The result is the same in the end
You're talking of leaving again
I doubt the thought leaves your head
Don't think I don't understand
My moods are hard to withstand
I would run too--
If I wore your shoes
I envy the option to...

Sick of the rain
I'm so sick of the rain
The mud is the thickest I've seen
I've learned my lesson
about testing the ground when it pours
I've been caught in the storm before
Straight lines are impossible
The waters' too high to jump in
I keep turning around;
I'm not trying it now!
I've been lost in the flood before
These clouds are so depressing
They've over-extended their welcome
They groan and complain and stay crying all day
I stay inside to stay out of their way
I've been struck by lightening before
I would appreciate the Sun...

All of my vices
I spent all my money on substance;
Some that enhance, some to forget
Some just for fun or coming undone
I've got one for every occasion
Little habits are the hardest to kick;
The big ones are harder to get
I'll take what my hands can find
We can give it a name,
But the poisons the same
I ingest it --
The rest is irrelevant
I'm counting up all of my vices
I have one for hope, one just to cope
One to relax and one to bounce back
A few in between and one to maintain,
Some that I've tried to buy...

Standing where I am
Life will never be more grand than the moment where we stand--
A simple second chance would shake the ground from where I am
Split second intuition;
I knew I should have listened
My faith in quick decisions
Fails to make my inquisition
Every time --
Battle of the mind;
The warning comes in visions
Flashing signs of slight provision
Slap my face because I miss them
Every time--
Every minute makes a million more
With a million other doors
I've stood here before;
And picked the wrong direction
Every time--

Think twice
We're bouncing back
I never thought of that before
I've got a million quick responses
I could throw out at any point --
But I don't
I've been hoarding up all my defenses
Everyone says they are different
To my shame, I've found them the same
I'd welcome the change if it ever came --
But it doesn't
I need a solid surface
Some common ground would be nice
This spinning around is unnerving
My responses are making it worse
I thought the ride might be worth it this time --
But it's not
The water is...

Breaking free
Everything she despised
Is all that she became
The same words she would say
To define the ones she hated
Are the words used today
To explain how she behaves
Her soul was always restless
She regrets ever holding it down
Determined to find acceptance;
She forgot about finding herself
Her talents are undeniable
But often misunderstood
She put them away
Hoping some day
They would say she became who she should
The pressure of presentation
Weighed heavy on her back
She carried it well
Refusing to fail...

figure me out
I am annoyed that you figure me out
You may be confused at what you find out
Truth be told;
I'm surprised to see it myself
I am weary through this transition
The weight of the world on my shoulders
Not knowing where life has me going--
Knowing;
I am broken
Unwhole, unwell,
Small little fraction of my former self
I am disappointed;
Not in life, but in me
Time I can't take back
Past I cannot change
Words I never said or never heard
Roads I missed
Turns that took me straight...

We were one
For a moment, we were one
The curves of my body
Molding into yours
Smooth skin pressing in
Tightly woven souls
One begins where the other ends
For a moment, we were one
My lips melt into yours
Only parting when we breath
Our lungs agree in rising unity
Our mouths dance along and sing
In perfect timed conformity
For a moment, we were one
Pouring into you
Like fluid moving through
Pouring into me
We were one
The curves of my body
Molding into yours
Smooth skin pressing in
Tightly woven souls

Come back
If I lose you, will you come back to find me
Back to your senses or back to mine
Who knows what the future holds
But I am holding you now
Laying in your arms
I can hear the sound of peace inside your chest
The strong, steady beat beneath my ear
I could stay here forever
Fall asleep and stay
Live, breath, and die this way
In this moment; I know home
If you're ever gone, if you ever leave
I hope we come to our senses
I hope you come for me
Bring me home
If i forget where I belong
Come and find me ...
Back to your senses or back to mine
Who knows what the future holds
But I am holding you now
Laying in your arms
I can hear the sound of peace inside your chest
The strong, steady beat beneath my ear

When we get it right
Crowded places get you down
There's nothing in this town we haven't seen before
Going back around means nothing to me now
But these four walls are stifling --
Reminders of big dreams lost in tired routines
Outside we are bustling
Inside, we're busting at the seams
We can make anything a tragedy
And that's exactly what we do, it seems
Making mountains from little things
Hide the forest with the trees
Lost in our memories
How it could, how it should be
But we're still breathing
Our hearts;...

old habits haven't died
We can't see eye to eye
I threw the drift
You missed my point
And let it slip right by
The baggage stacks upon our backs are
Packed with maps and stones
Retracing tracks that bruised our bones
And double back to what we've known
Old habits haven't died
Some we missed,
but some we just revived
From our remorse
We crack the panes and pry the doors
flawed remains sprawled on the floor
Sorted out and sifted through
You size me up with yours
And I weigh mine with you
Checking lists and counting scores...

Optimism
Optimism
Prism of perception
Shedding light into the darkest places
The blinded cluttered mind
Is paralyzed by shrouds of doubt
Clouded by uncertainty
Fear behind the eyes
Stains the view when looking through
Clearly my demise
Neglecting change when change is due
Even from the cage we choose
Where our thoughts will wonder to
Even from our vaulted wounds
Residing still has sides to move
Abiding by the faulty angles
Filtered by the things we knew
A tainted, tangled, mangled view
Sight relies on lines of...
