Poet Introduction
To Be a Poet...or not To Be...that is the question!
FREE LOVE
Love is great…but it must be free
With the freedom…to be me
Unconditional…no expectations
Always spontaneous…new revelations
Must stay the same…through good and bad
The thought of it…must make me glad
Always pure and sweet and savory
Should feel like freedom…not like slavery
Should be familiar…never strange
Just as I am…no need to change
Because if you change my spirit you change my mind
Next thing you know I’ll be hard to find
Lost inside your interpretation
Of what I should be…infatuation
So alluring is the spell that exists

Friend or Frenemy?
A frenemy will try to take your man
Hoping to get what you’ve got
A friend will help you bury that dog
And hope that y’all don’t get caught
A frenemy will try to slander your name
Hoping to steal your shine
A friend will always act the same
Throughout the sands of time
A frenemy will always compete and compare
Gauging themselves off of you
A friend will always help you along
In whatever you choose to do
A frenemy will always come in your square
Trying to cause you strife
A friend will give you personal space
And still...
Hoping to get what you’ve got
A friend will help you bury that dog
And hope that y’all don’t get caught
A frenemy will try to slander your name

For Love of Patrick
I wish I could have been there
To see the awesome joy
That my mama felt
For her newborn baby boy
I wish I could have held you
And kissed your chubby cheeks
And told you how I love you
As I rocked you back to sleep
And if only I could have been there
To soothe my mamas’ heart
The day God called you to him
And she was torn apart
Only God knows the answers
Or can even comprehend
Why in three short months
Your precious life did end
And it’s only He who knows
How mama found the strength within
To pick up...

DESEGRAGATION
Martin Luther King was a man with a plan
He wasn’t afraid of being slayed by the Ku Klux Klan
We lived a segregated, separated life of poverty
No longer called slaves but we still weren’t free
There was the white mans’ this and the white mans’ that
And if you stepped on a bus you had to move to the back
There was a negative impact imbedded in our minds
Because everything was separated by “Whites Only” signs
We lived in ignorance, and violence anger and confusion
Because blacks were not considered part of the constitution
Because this was the law we felt...

GHETTO
Rats and roaches… for the eyes to see
But most of all… it’s a mentality
Of chronic blunts… causing lack of motivation
A pre-planned, pre-destined… slave situation
It’s like Ecclesiastes… where nothing new is under the sun
And everything that you can do… Once already has been done
It’s a labyrinth of pipe dreams
Where all seems well under a hazy high
It’s a video lie … where life Blings
If you’re willing… to “Ride or Die”
It’s the result of the promise of Willie Lynch
To control generations… yet to come
So in welfare vice-grips… they feel the...

SOLDIER
What goes on in the mind of a person...
who decides to lay down their life?
for a bunch of strangers
no matter the dangers
When I could not handle the strife
What goes on in the heart of someone...
who could leave their spouses and kids?
for you and me
so that we can be free
The bravest thing one ever did
What goes on in the heart of a soldier
who knows his order is tall?
to give up their self
and forgo worldly wealth
For Liberty and Justice for All!
who decides to lay down their life?
for a bunch of strangers
no matter the dangers
When I could not handle the strife
What goes on in the heart of someone...
who could leave their spouses and kids?

MY NOTEBOOK
I wish I could tell you face to face
But my notebook is the only place
To freely let my feelings flow
And not worry about just letting go
I can tell of my crush on these pages
Without any rush or gradual stages
I can be bold... my secrets' protected
No worries of "NO" and feeling rejected
It's a one sided... conversation
Just me my pen and sexual frustration
I sometimes wish any love would do
Then it'd be easy... but I fell for you
And boy did I fall... extremely hard
My hearts' become a hallmark card
And the words inscribed...

MY APOLOGY
The other day I decided to ammend
A broken relationship with an old friend
I had thought about her many times
How I had told her, her faults and read her, her crimes
I'd reminded her of her weaknesses every single day
Till her spirit was broken and she didn't want to play
She had begun to believe my every negative word
Now hope for the future to her seemed absurd
I guess all of my spirit breaking had taken its' toll
Now she was wounded... now she felt old
She stoppped even trying... her spirit was literally dying
And to keep from moving forward...

"LIKE" MY STATUS
We forgot how to be alone
We must pick up the phone
We send a text,an email next
These gadgets have us GONE
We used to go out and play
Now we compute all day
What is to be next century
Will we be in dismay?
Robots are what we've become
Our human side has gone numb
This new technology
Has damaged psychology
We're acting like "Dumber and Dumb"
Facebook has become our identity
Quite a frightening entity
We need to go back
To when children played tag
And T.V contained no obscenities

SLAVE=HIS STORY
In the dust... lies our pain
Never to trust... this world again
When out of pride and strength and beauty we were taken
Like thunderbolts... our souls were shaken
What pain we felt... to be heartlessly sold
For a scrap of cloth... or a bit of gold
It was the white faced man... who brought confusion
Said they were our friends... yet they wrought illusion
But they did not alone... it was also our brothers
Tribe against tribe... selling out others
Not realizing... our strength was in numbers
Mandingo's kidnapped Wolofs... out of their slumbers...
Never to trust... this world again
When out of pride and strength and beauty we were taken
Like thunderbolts... our souls were shaken

LOCKED UP MOMMY
The truth is when you're out there living
Always taking... never giving.
Getting caught up from day to day...
in a bunch of he say she say
Cursing your children and chasing your man
You never thought it would get out of hand
You never dreamed there would come the day
When the Feds would be hauling you away
Wait a minute! you said...I"m just his girl
But that doesn't matter in this cruel world
You were by his side and that's for real
So according to them ...you knew the deal
Your brand new truck... your big screen T.V
Makes you his...
