I clicked on the above link and got 404 - not found....so check...there is an
/f/ in the above link that looks out of place...maybe a typo

poet Anonymous

[font=Verdana]I've tried presenting the link in several different ways but it doesn't seem to work. Look up "free verse D. H. Lawrence" on Google and click the first link. That's the article I mean, and thanks for alerting me to the problem, Kitty.

I found this...is this what you were referring to?

http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/articles/f/forms-of-verse-free-verse/

Yes...this is it...you can download it as a pdf file and print it off...just 2 pages.

Jack - thank you for the competition.

[font=Verdana]Yes, that's exactly it... Why isn't that link working for me?

poet Anonymous

[font=Verdana]Wait, it is now. I think I may have put it too close to the close font tag. The link's working in my opening post now.

The smell of rain reaches not this land,
Neither does beauty nor love,
Ugly things come forth from darkness,
As it is forgotten by the world above.

Once upon a time did this magic place prosper,
Based upon an intricate matrix,
Now that the catalyst had turned to dust,
Blood and poison is all that will mix.

One cannot say this place as barren,
For the beings here are not dead,
But neither are they truly living,
They no longer know fear nor dread.

Tears have fallen,
Tears have dried,
Old wounds torn open,
Because of hidden lies.

She flew back to her birthplace,
Now bedecked in shrouds,
It used to be her home,
But now it's just a house.

Big and empty,
There it stood,
Amongst the debris,
Of her broken childhood.

Many things have changed,
But her heart remained the same,
Ever scarred, ever fragile,
From playing life's game.

Maybe she shouldn't have descended,
But stayed afloat in the clouds,
Where they covered the agonizing truth,
Where she was farthest from that house.

The smell of rain reaches not this land,
Neither does beauty nor love,
Ugly things come forth from darkness,
As it is forgotten by the world above.

The Kiss (off)

One of those nights
where the beer tasted flat
the vodka watered down
the D.J. was awful
the pool table, dirty
and covered in big ones
all mine
I was leaning on a bar stool
holding the pool cue
and a beer
When seemingly out of nowhere
I turned and she was there
Every drink hit me
at once
she walked over
and kissed me
I guess she was lost for words
when I say kissed, I mean
backed me up hard, against the wall
I dropped my cue and kicked the table
all unstable, pinned
head spinning
my hair wrapped tightly
in both her hands
her body tightly pinned to mine
my eyes, startled open
looking at hers, closed
lips locked and tongue diving
I'd have sworn she'd been missing me
re-thinking her decision on our
division, but she kissed me
and walked away
then I lost the game
and 20 dollars
drove home alone
thought for hours
about that kiss
maybe she simply wanted
to make sure we'd remember
our last kiss

“Lightweight”

I’m thinking as a drunk,
I am drunk,
beer beer beer
yup three only
so far anyway,
that’s all.
I’m a fancy flower
a young embodiment of
smoke clouds and a computer
and I now have the breath
of a weiser person.
Sip.

While the animals were sleeping..

His love
was above
the pain
from the
stained glass
and aftermath
of abuse...

he cradled me
while disabling
reasons..

he'd say
shhhhhhhh
the animals love you.
and if you stop crying
they'll come
and sing to us..

I

inhaled his breath
and believed that
if I breathe invitation
i'd hear
the wild wolves
howl while they prowled
around us..

He said..
it's not us they hunger
they seek the thunder
under the same sins and stars..

I

felt special
and for just a few minutes
felt the devils arms around me..

I

believe that
the rain washes us clean.

then one day
early

too early

jesse was alone
the animals were sleeping..
as it rained

he blamed himself
for the health
of a sick earth...

got the bible
and his gun

closed his eyes and sung
to god.

as we scurried the floor
to gather his brains
and tried piecing his head
back together

i

sat back against the wall
and tasted the blood
of an angel...

my finger still lingers
his scent.

You want me and I know you do,
It was told to me
By you, the medal of Atlantis.
A thousand cigarettes and
Fever thoughts have allowed
Me to kill us, then
the war of the ocean escaped your face.
It was all me, my doing,
Your sinking was all on me
And I allowed us to sound legendary,
Lost, no more love,
No more we.
Your place, the one I’d swoon for,
A place with you, an escape,
A little hole in the floor
Surrounded by treed seaweeds,
That’s gone, that’s how it seems,
A comfortable island away
From all my troubles
Lays under water because
Each time the trips to you
Felt like crossing the ocean
Always crying forward and back.

I couldn’t just stay.
It started to harpoon me
Badly, everyday, being miles away
I didn’t have to pull the plug,
I didn’t mean to cyclone us away.

Your note had slammed so hard the door
On dreamt of drowsy days, delicious nights
When great crested grebes rise and twist as one.
Despair, your memory confined. I thought
No more of you. Yet when, by chance, we met
Outside the club of our first tryst, I let
You take me home- a drive contrived, I prayed,
To capture the misty past I craved.
But not a word you spoke- bar yes or no
In answer to conversational probes.
Presaged it a new dawn or just a sign
Of altered roles to which I must resign,
A broken token of our compact past
A past when no compact could be broken
