Surrender...
A word I have come to know
a most wicked wind to blow
when it whistles in my ear
letting me know when it is near
For how then to finally release
when there is never any peace
in this bled heart of mine
still bound in concertina twine
All these arrows and slings
some of my favorite things
when they hit their mark
when they lit their spark
Tracing all of these scars
just like fireflies in sealed jars
meant only to amuse
perhaps then to disabuse
These battles I cannot win ...

when it whistles in my ear
letting me know when it is near
For how then to finally release
when there is never any peace
in this bled heart of mine
still bound in concertina twine

Shelter Another

Togetherness,
a word they often found unfamiliar,
as if they were two magnets
facing the same pole,
pushing each other apart,
refusing to stand near.
So I kept the necklace,
clasped and settled against my heart,
closer than they’d ever been.
The crib I first woke up in
was far from their hold,
and neither tried to reach for it.
The ground grazed my knees,
as I...
