Trans
So many things in nature are in constant transition
And for some it’s a lengthy passage to transform
And if this needs to be transcribed with precision
Some of us transpire to be different from the norm
We’re born with inherent qualities and dispositions
Slowly transfiguring in body, soul, and mind
Translation: while some transport through religion
Others transmute spiritually in their own time
Many are ousted for their supposed transgressions
Because they have found peace through transparency
But those who are transfixed on...

Flumadiddle! ( after Theodor [Dr] Seuss Geisel )
It’s Flumadiddle! you see
to assume a fact is fact
by just eyeball-contact!
Flumadiddle! I tell ya!
Look underneath!
See what's hidden yourself!
Flumadiddle!
to think we’re separate
despite a color or two or three;
Flumadiddle! I tell ya!
To see a different
heart or brain or liver, ew'ee!
Flumadiddle!
because a heart is a heart
and a liver a liver, ew'ee! ...

Asylum
I give salutations to troubled souls
And marvel at the unwelcome states
Of those persisting interior debates;
Thinking they've lost all their self controls.
It's then I scold myself for heartless thoughts,
Forgetting that brains must be silly things
Allowed from time to time to stretch their wings
And flap themselves above the hellish spots
Where flightless mentation sometimes maroons.
But there, amid the strand desolation,
Of existential consolidation...
Reflects the dazzle of a thousand moons;

Gender Identity In Perilous Times
Who makes the decision as a person stand
Once life exits the birth canal are you now considered woman or a man
Pink or Blue
We extend our congratulations as we waited for this handsome bundle anew
However, what happens when one’s not sure after coming of age
The mentality of your gender, a person just cannot gage
Parents dealing with alter egos and the backlash of identity rage
Marbles and trains become dolls and dresses
Counselors out of pocket expenses to determine undetected sexes
But mama, I feel that way everyday
I should...

Dysphoria
i put on
the dress
you bought me
it fit
perfectly
but
i wondered
why i saw
a man
in the mirror
wearing
the dress

Lipstick Redemption
When an unseasonably warm autumn comes to Natchez, the trees aren’t colorful down in this part of the south, but another splendor catches my eye. My friend from grade school sports a long ponytail with curls dangling from his bangs. So maybe he’s going for the Bohemian look. He has always been a non-conformist down to his shoulder-length hair.
He is a Libra, so is it any surprise that we celebrate the Harvest season by him giving me and my sister a drive down the Natchez Trace to a creek? He says, “Rosie and John, hope this doesn’t come as any shock to you but I think I was...

Ode to Seaweed
I remember diving
into swimming pools
head first, hair floating
like seaweed without
a care in the world
at twelve I watched
each strand fall to
the floor, my bare
feet brushing them
away from my skin
i'm returning back
to the seaweed
after eighteen
years saying:
'i'm not afraid,
I love you'
into swimming pools
head first, hair floating
like seaweed without
a care in the world
at twelve I watched
each strand fall to
the floor, my bare
feet brushing them
away from my skin
i'm returning back
to the seaweed
after eighteen
years saying:
'i'm not afraid,
I love you'

There once was an ugly.....
I am the scratch mark
on your last layer of paint,
the stuck-out nail
your hand snags against.
The awkward walk
of a cowboy’s gait,
the turned away face
with a glimpse of disgrace.
The hand that covers
a mouth of despair,
the pure inhibition
that lets children stare.
The freak summer wave
that makes the beach scream,
the bloated carcass
as you drink downstream.
So I sit here alone
and pour out a poem,
dressed in the way
that she gets to know...

This Time
This Time
In an infinite number
in any direction,
The Quarter,
The Classic,
The Agent,
The Monk,
the same way
it was written
in the script.
You never know
who else
wants
to be
a monk.
They all
do.
