THE TASTE WAS DELICIOUS
I had often
thought about
how it would
taste, what
the texture
would feel
like in my mouth;
would it be
sweet, bitter,
or maybe salty.
I thought it
over and bought
a piece of octopus
from a street vendor;
to my surprise
The taste was delicious.
Have you ever
been surprised by
a new taste?
thought about
how it would
taste, what
the texture
would feel
like in my mouth;
would it be
sweet, bitter,
or maybe salty.

a piece of octopus

The taste was delicious.
Have you ever
been surprised by
a new taste?

Comfortable with Silence
I’m my own man
understated
elegant in a rough way
a cup of black tea
in a coffee frenzied rush hour
not a pretty boy
I don’t do things to be different
I am different
if you’re looking for cool
look elsewhere
I’m pleated pants
in flat front chino land
no validation needed
comfortable with silence
wearing a 1950 black Omega Seamaster
wind up baby

Herbiary I: Vervain
Let Magic In
Enchantment—
worlds unseen;
your pale, lilac face
upon slender, spiked bodice
bare of leaves
Gateway to the in-between
liminal spaces—
magical mystery. . .
channeling medicine
of absentee herbs
within the healer's garden
Delicate as a sip of brew;
but, beware! vertigo of the soul
if one drinks the cup whole

Stop and Smell the Coffee
Time flies by everyone wants to get somewhere
they have no time to stand and admire
there is no calm in their existence
everything is rushing all needs are instant
not all wants that tea and conversation
or dip their biscuits in hot milky coffee
or watch a bird fly overhead in admiration
and wonder how it is to fly so high, so free
they are tied up with the world
what is Kate wearing to the Gala
why Meghan’s hat makes her look old
does red go with black or yellow
how is old Bruce doing now
why did Tiffany’s...

A soothing brew of sancti-tea
Steam tickles my nose
scents of chamomile and honey
commingle with fresh lemon
harken me back to first memories
of home, hearth and healing
Nothing fancy
or particularly profound
echoes of spearmint waft to tummy settle
tried-and-true, almost totem-esque
in relaxing away pained life
Liquid love that's always
just been there
tradition imbued in ancestral evolution
relief tenderly curated
into inherited sacred tonic
Divine elixir of millennia
hot, soul soothing catharsis...

Death and Tea
On a gray autumn afternoon,
death knocked on my door
with a serene smile. Without delay
I asked: "Come in, don't stay outside."
We sat at the oak table,
Death, in silence, observed the space.
I served the tea, very hot, in moments,
and death accepted, with a grateful gesture.
"Let's chat," I said,
Death nodded, "But about what, honey?"
"Life, dreams, everything that comes and goes too
and about how in the end, everything is lost, even the sky."
We talk about love, glory days, ...

Master Jewelers
Some of them grew up on pot farms.
Young folks seeing the plants – As pure innocents.
(Perhaps a true form of innocence.)
Innocence, lost in air raids of helicopter swarms.
When the shit was banned, propaganda proliferated.
The term MJ – Signified something that would turn you gay.
“Mary/Juan” – A hermaphroditic human, or something?
Or perhaps make you play the piano in frantic madness, crazy.
Certainly, it was an attack on the people’s best interests,
A defense of the textile industry & other interests.
And perhaps even a...

live jazz coffee house haiku
jazz house

Tea in the park.......(Rain rain go away)
Sparrows fight over scone crumbs,
beaks covered with jam and cream,
serviettes swirl beneath
the wooden bandstand.
The smart marching bands
have loosened their ties,
broke ranks to the clap of bunting,
blown away sheet music
played by the summer shower,
ink washed codas ending
under mud soaked footprints.
Then the hiss of rain stops,
hurried legs slow
as the sun's diamond arc
filters through the treetops.
A grateful reward
for the die hard umbrellas and folding chairs,
that...

Nice To See You In This Cafe
Clare sipped her iced tea.
Eric walked in and smiled at Clare.
They enjoyed a tasty lunch.
