Rebel Girl Mclean
On Monday afternoon, a middle-aged man named Zaire went downtown to buy goldfish for his aquarium. He bought two goldfish from a vendor on King Street, and then he headed for the taxi stand on West Street. When he reached the taxi stand, he saw a large group of people including schoolchildren standing there waiting for Maxfield taxis. At that moment, no taxi was there loading. He thought to himself that he would not get the chance to get on a taxi because the crowd would rush into any taxi that arrived there. Consequently, he decided to walk to a place called Fish Ground near the intersection...

"Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my Soul to keep;
If I should die before I 'wake,
I pray the Lord my Soul to take."
--Traditional Children's Prayer
Walking a balance beam,
aware I might fall--
or fail to stick the landing
I covet the innocence of children,
who, without reservation, believe in Santa Claus,
the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.
I contemplate Jacob Marley
and his chains, and recoil
at the ponderous weight.
What deals...

Religious freedom
Freedom to express one’s belief
Having the right to remain silent
Acknowledgment of varying faiths
One nation under God
Whose god exactly?
Benefits of the majority
Dystopia of minorities
Pick up a Bible
And a dictionary
Read between the lines
Of Deuteronomy

Deception (100-word story)
Her smile shined with innocence and kindness. But in her eyes, I saw a hunger. She moved with a trusting grace across her bed, unaware of the darkness that lurked within me.
I wove a web of deceit around her novice heart. She was so easy, and her body was beautifully ripened by a life well lived.
As I planted my seed, her spirit knew my deception. With twisted satisfaction, I watched her eyes as they learned too late. After making love to her sweet spirit, I carefully put her flesh to death and preserved her in holiness for eternity.

Truth that is Nurtured, and Other Teachings
- Truth that is Nurtured, and Other Teachings -
I bear witness and testimony that Allah is greater than all things, for Allah is all things and within and a part of all things, and apart from all things eternally and without ending. There is nothing that can be truly called God save for Allah! The angels that are Allah's messengers revere the Eternal One. The Jinn serve the will of the Eternal One. Even those that are fallen from grace, are so by the will of that Eternal One, for there is nothing that is not in accordance with what was foreseen by Allah. That which we may...

Second Coming
Ten, nine, eight,
seven, six, five, four
Behold, I knock upon the door
that whosoever… three, two, one
We have ig-ni-tion.
Orian sighs and by his breath,
all life returns from after death.
A swarm of ships from Heaven’s realm
amass and duly overwhelm
the somber dark before the light.
A thief has come unto the night.
Swirling spheres that make no sound
split the sky and torch the ground,
zig and zag with proton speed,
phantoms of the galaxy.
Angels lead a vast descent
inside their shiny armament. ...

April
April
Again, come the fine days, - the dust,
A sky of azure, bathed in light,
Long evenings, the walls burning bright ; -
No green in sight, and hardly naught
Save a crimson glint that is caught
Adorning the black trees like night !
This fine time makes me weigh and brood.
That after rainy days, it should
Bring forth, in some canvas painting,
The Spring that paints in green and pink,
Like a fresh nymph hatching, does bring
A smile, from the waters, spurting
...

Hymn to King Penda
bent in two, your crooked crown
speaks of distance between
land and sky
of Mercia burning alive
drummed by the feet of Saxons
who proclaimed a different name
beat you with that one true God
unfamiliar to a heathen tongue
and so, I think of you fondly
as I sit beneath a tree in England
your bones quaking in familiar mud
tangled with tree roots, those boggy oaks
that rot slowly—
life becoming death
death becoming eternity
and I note the gold cross
they branded you with
becomes sand running ...
