Poems about a Pandemic
#pandemic
Poems about a pandemic, including coronavirus (covid-19). Poetry about an epidemic of a disease, and the effect it has on society. Poems about the best and worst of human nature, and the fragility of our species, when a pandemic emerges. Also poetry about how the science and health care community, and governments, respond to pandemics.
What the Poison in the Air Stole from Them
The young lie on the floor, fingers
and marrow fused to phones, they lie there
quieter than the poison in the air
The virus stole nudging in buses,
she fondles the screen of her phone,
limning the boy's eyes as she listens,
her finger is not in range, she knows
he will not see her touching his lips
but hopes he will feel the caress
We must tell them that they will, they will
noisily pull out chairs and seat
themselves around tables of laughter
We must tell them not to worry,
boys will cup...

The virus stole nudging in buses,

The cost of Covid
Do not question
here, take the bribe
don’t ask where it came from
sit back enjoy the ride
We’ll blame it on Russia
or those who voted to leave
if the media says so
they decide what you believe
Inflation weaponised
food too expensive to eat
we’ll turn off the gas
if you won’t accept your defeat
There’s jobs if you want them
to pay for a life with no choice
don’t share your opinions
you no longer have a voice
It’s much worse in China ...

Cashier Visitation
Why couldn't I condition myself
to a box in which everything
was kindly set for me?
Does the box make you shiver? Does it?
It's set, another wins!
Also, why should I be a friend
of someone, the disgusting!
Pay attention to the baggage.
To the most crowded suitcase of all.
Does the bag make you shiver? Does it?
Everything that is full is not a closet,
The closet, by all accounts, is empty.
Are you upset about how empty it is?
Does it hurt you to see the closet so empty?
I saw the dark instrument of...

When They Came For Me
From racial disparity to gender inequality
Medical insubordinations have gripped sociality with its falsehood remedial jargon
From Covid-19 and all its variants, the cancelation of woman’s rights to a new uprising pandemic and that is now Monkey Pox
The depopulation insignia of America and its dirty concealed secrets and it is always a bipartisan agenda
This life we are living reminds me of the infamous poem, First They Came by Martin Niemöller
Hidden agenda by the government is at an all time high
The latest is the Monkey Pox, debacle it...

To Walk on Water
Faith is an act of lying supine,
and motionless, torso yielded,
bare skin cold in a blue and white room
of soft voices tittering about
bare skin recoiling from the idea
of a surgeon with a scalpel in hand.
When a man is carried away against his will,
hands flail and grab whatever are about,
my fingers reach for and wrap around
the door jambs of unsurrendered problems.
I am Isaac, elbows bound, bewildered
by the sight of a dagger overhead
I am...

anxiety vi (love and dying)
Sometimes it feels like
I can't get a break
I've been sick for months now
random viruses, cold, flu
anxiety depression
funnily enough no covid
I worry about my health
mentally
physically
spiritually
My dad's had covid twice now
he's in hospital with a cough
that won't go away
and needs oxygen to breathe
they say he might have lung cancer
but can't run tests
until he's covid negative
We're not good with "I love you's"
so I text him
asking if he's doing okay
and that I hope...

The Test
i studied
learned the
vocabulary
pondered the concepts
read the popular
and scientific literature
when the symptoms began
i wrote it off
to allergies
then the flu
tried the usual
remedies
rest hydration
decongestants
sunshine meditation
hot toddies
but nothing worked
i felt worse
finally
stuck a swab up my nose
hoping to fail
but passed the test
COVID
finally caught up
now what

Sadness
A strange cocktail
Dreams of romance
With a large dose of Covid
Both remind me
Of my vulnerability
And Loneliness
It's like falling into an abyss
An empty void
Of silent space
My heart bleeds
Into the ether
There seems no hope
Just this solitude
I find unable to bare
No embraces
To fill my heart
I am no more
Than a grain of sand
On an empty beach
Washed away
In a tide of emotions
by Jemia

The 2020 Chip Down Blues
The torture tune of trauma town
Rings in my midnight ear
To say to me when chips are down
All merriment will disappear...
When introverts, not the warrior,
Will be the ones that thrive
When city streets get gorier
As intubations survive...
More so than those who shriek and shout
In a rally or ugly crowd
With an unwitting spittle spout
Ever and anon too proud...
Since salvation comes, as you will see,
Packaged in humility.
