Silent - Return To The House (4)
Two Years Ago, Gavin
'What was all that about' I said when Arthur Harlesden went downstairs.
'He was lying,' Lucy said. 'There's no way Veronica would let someone on
drugs roam around. She didn't warn you when you went in earlier, did she?'
'No.'
'Which proves my point. Arthur's up to someone. There's no one on the premises at all. He's
so shifty and secretive. I'm going after him.'
'Are you sure you want to do that?'
'Totally sure. I'm going to find out what's going on. I'll wait by the bungalow, where his car...

In Time To See This Brunette Chick Laying Naked
Today,
I finished
taking
my shower in time
to see this brunette
chick laying naked
in bed
and looking
at me.

In the Basement
In the Basement!
I’ve seen fear on the face of men in war,
that wide-eyed riveted gaze,
on mine in front of some foes with guns
who intended to extinguish my days.
Yet nothing could ever prepare me
for this tale I’m compelled to present
about hauling wet clothes to a dryer
downstairs in my buddy’s basement.
First the lights went out, I dropped the load.
The basement silence held two sounds,
like knives slicing air in the distance
and thudding feet walking soft ground.
I lunged for the stairway in darkness. ...

Silent - Return To The House (3)
Two Years Ago, Gavin
Scared of an old man? You'd think, no way. But believe me, hearing that voice on the stairs really freaked us out because it was so unexpected.
Thick darkness of the storage room.
And then the door opening, letting in light.
Lucy's face has gone chalky pale. As if she was ill or something.
'Oh,' Arthur Harlesden said. 'I was looking for someone. I thought they might be in here.'
'Oh,' I echoed. 'Yeah, right.'
'I was looking for one of the young apprentices from Terence's...

In the Crow's Nest
Far out at sea in the middle of the night
Under the moonlight the waves are calm
The ship rocks back and forth, up and down
As the lookout watches from the Crow’s Nest
All the seamen are asleep below deck
Except for the lookout in the Crow’s Nest
Watching the horizon, looking for land
As the ship bobs up and down at high sea
And the lookout perched on the Crow’s Nest
Tired from the long days out at sea sees a thing
But it’s not a whale or any other known creature
It’s something bigger than the entire ship ...

On The Beach And Next To Her Best Friend
Kelly opened
her eyes and
found herself nude
on the beach and next to
her best friend Agatha
who wanted to rub some
sunscreen all over Kelly's bare bod.

The Case of the Criminal Queen
a detective story
It was a busy day for Homer Featherstonhaugh and as he leapt from the red London bus, as much as a man of his girth ever leaps, he had a loud enough song in his heart to make the sparrows quit their warblings. He dove into Bidwell’s and ordered a pot of tea and a cooked breakfast. Folks thought it was eccentric of him to eat in a workman’s cafe surrounded by boiler suits and such, or a sign that he was trying too hard to seem like a man of the people, a sort of reverse parvenu. ‘Silly old Homer’ they’d say, ‘Off on his odysseys again. The fellows must think him a...

A Shocking Winter Discovery
Some
kids were
playing ice
hockey until
one of them spotted
some red coloring, took
a closer look and saw the
dead corpse of a woman who has
been slashed repeatedly and dumped
nude in the ice before he called for Dad.

Solar Hoax
What am I
On this mossy shelf of stone
To stand dizzy and gut sick
On this sad salty precipice
And not tear up or despair
A dragon is eating my heart
The swaying between swells
The shadows and rotting hull
The eastward compass jammed
Into the sun
Is this love
The mad crew, leprous
On lawn chairs and opium
Every room an app on a cell phone
While I write of contempt and apostasy
And the dizzy gut sick feeling
Of a man adrift
That Ancient Unknown Mariner
Cast out from the...

Silent - Return To The House (2)
Two Years Ago, Lucy
Suddenly, she got the impression that someone was watching her from an upstairs window, looking beyond the clump of tree trunk, directly at her. She peered up, certain that the person was standing there, staring down from the top floor where Agnes was currently staying in a double apartment. But she couldn't see anyone.
The entrance door opened. Gavin. 'It's not too bad, but we'll have to be quick. Veronica's round the back with this lad I've not seen before. I told her I'd come back because I wasn't feeling well. We go straight in and up the...
