darkness,

earnestly,

her face

The Albatross
I used to think
those hanging an albatross
around their neck
were serious about penance—
those standing their ground
saying, I refuse to retreat
but will go down with this ship
because that's how much I believe;
or, deeply loved—
because any other behavior
would mean I did not
Yet, sooner or later
some kind rebound lover
bearing gifts and poetry
appears in shining armor;
or, perhaps another...

After the year two thousand, they stopped making bodies like that
Hahaha able and willing, with a tight kitty kat
She doesn't let just anybody hit that, she's very particular
She doesn't consider sex simply an extra curriculum
Fuck what you've faced and where you've been, she wasn't it
You've gotta be more than worthy to hit that shit
She's no blunt and won't be rolled or passed around
You've gotta come with the real if you want to get down
Flashy clothes and cars isn't gonna do it
Hell, you could have nine baby mommas cause...

Wayward Poets
Someone goes out early, every morning
to make sure that the welcome mat
is free of leaves
Or during winter, of snow
There's a key, under the mat, but
the door has never been locked
There's always someone
coming or going
To this old, white concrete house
atop the edge of a cliff
-Looks like a fingernail at the end
of a crackled finger
of the old man mountain
Pointing down towards the valley
Those that look up, thinking
is it choosing me
But it's not a path
for the weak hearted
...

Surely there's disorder within each mind
that graces the troublesome human race.
Why, necessarily, would it be kind
when chaos sparks thought all over the place?
The deviltry is in the details
which civilization will not master
when all it cares about are net sales
in the profit margin hereafter.
But chaos and creativity link
in the marbled columns of poetry
where order angels help the devils think
in divine terms of versatility....

If I want to wear my hair in a pink scrunchie bun, I will, dammit!

It's another poem about my hair
I think it's the third.
Kind of stupid and absurd.
When the hot weather just won't stop
my long blonde hair goes atop

There’s a cranky old poetry machine
tucked away in the back of my head.
It hasn’t been running well, of late,
only firing up in short, infrequent bursts
as a last-resort grasp at clarity
when emotions have become too tangled.
It has suffered from disuse,
its metaphors jammed,
flow revving unevenly in halting, coughing word-bursts.
Today I’m pulling it from the shed and
gently blowing off the dust.
I’ll gingerly test each lever and pulley,
searching for semblance of rhythm and rhyme,
replacing spark plugs of...
