8. Annotated Peoples Make Connections: if they walked around in love/for love/by love with SFX labels to their chests
My feet feel gravity un-gilled. They shuffle
how an airplane lands at night. The towers
hiccuping bubbles like they just had a habanero
telling us which way is up and which way
to burn in inkwater. Here a padded slope
with the headlights of trench fish, bifarious
and lighting the turning down, down, down.
Rows a hushed sway of seaweed heads.
How to show the fish a mirror since they live in one?
Cameron, you couldn’t have imagined the abyss better.
Cut lights, action in seats. We don’t
need a crowd, just the silver screen and the...

Dans le Pays de Colline: L'appel du Vide
Kangaroos are suicidal.
That seems ab-
rupt. Ha*(see later) absolutely,
let us start
with the deer.
Choice of poison: sprightly
Sidecars. We shore mailboxes.
I rarely see red
flags anymore, doe.
A Hill Country halt
on asphalt. Anthrax.
Idea of a joke;
putting antlers
on mailboxes*. These Texans.
I lost count
their odorless stink
when fifty dented bumpers
stream
plow an end of tunnel
in the mist. Red

The Minotaur
The Queen of Crete's bull-headed lad
thought the rumour a load of bull,
'bout a wild bull... being his dad?
the Queen of Crete's bull-headed lad,
saw red, stomped and snorted, got mad,
felt the labyrinth's peaceful pull,

once thought rumours a load of bull...

Broken Camera
I don't know what's wrong
point and click
click, click, click
and nothing happens
zilch, nada, nyet
I like taking photographs of people
doesn't matter really who
i want to capture some spark
a little bit of the divine
but this camera's broken
and refuses to see
as if
the people just disappear
along with their hopes and dreams
with no substance
or opinions of their own
existing in time
and two dimensional space
maybe my camera's right
these people aren't really here
cardboard cutout forms ...

(king oskar sardiner)
A Brisling (King Oscar sardines)
I opened a tin of sardines in olive oil for supper
Headless and nicely packed, except for one
that had a head and was alive.
I put the live one in a glass jar; the others looked
so dead I could not eat them, put the tin back
into the fridge
My little King Oscar sardine grew and was too
big for a jar, I had fed it bread crumbs,
real home
baked with butter.
Suddenly, there were many cats in the yard the adventurous cats
tried to find an open window
I took my sardine to an empty lake. ...

A Lullaby for Inner Demons
sleep little demons
sleep
lay your mischief down and rest
save your anger for tomorrow
slumber little imps
slumber
people can be so unkind
the world revolving around their need
dream little devils
dream
why do we worship so much greed
save your mayhem tomorrow
doze my gremlins
doze
we can burn the world when you wake
warming our toes on society's blaze
rest little imps
rest
blowing up Wall Street sounds so sweet
and the howling of corporate greed
sleep my monsters
sleep
dream of...

Cocooned In Silk
One wild and wintry winter
He ventured to the wood
Guided only by the eerie moonlight
As he reached the spot, where a monster once stood
He called out "Oh monster!"
"Come to me forthwith"
"I wish to make a deal with you"
"That one day you may'st forgive"
He waited upon a mossy bank
Surrounded by frozen leaves
And within a moment of minutes
A loud crunching could be perceived
As he beckoned it even closer
He began to perceive its size
As wide as a felled oak tree ...
