A season in hell

for that dream vacation

The Looking Glass
I walk a familiar hall, to a claustrophobic velvet room
There she hangs upon a nail, and nothing else
The space is dark, but blurred outlines escape
She must hold bookshelves of memories
And pictures of the past
This antique looking glass
I dare not ask for a previous snapshot of myself.
.. I told her not to
Can’t you see her standing there?
A jailed little girl separated by nothing but a fragile frame
I don’t know her name
But I seem to mimic her
Or is she mimicking me?
A border of reality and reminiscence...

REFLECTION (mid 1990's, Galveston Island, Texas)
look broadly at the big mirror
see the big picture reflected there
do you see and feel only darkness and fear
or do you feel and see love
joy hope beauty and wonder
looking back out at you instead
quick
look around
and behind the big mirror again
do you still see love
at some point the big mirror will break
shattering into a thousand other
individually reflective pieces
where you will still see and be left
with only yourself and the big picture
in your mind and quickened senses
and hopefully love
joy hope...

I woke up with the feeling
of centipedes walking over me
I concluded that it was you, my love...
so I didn't open my eyes
I've let the slow shiver take over me
and it made me forget where fingers begin
or where the skin ends
that was you, my love, I concluded...
I think I fell asleep again
because I don't remember seeing you leave

Nothing is the silence between the words,
the empty space between the verses,
the absence of meaning and form.
The echo of a lost sigh.
Nothing is the grain of sand on the beach...
The dewdrop on the green leaf.
The breath of the wind that dissipates.
The vacant gaze on the distant horizon.
Nothing at all, it's the vacuum of infinity,
the void that fills the universe,
the absence of meaning and purpose.
The abyss between being and non-being.
But, perhaps, in this nothing, nothing, nothing at all, ...

Hike alongside the crab
In the whispering shallows,
where the waves kiss the shore,
small crabs emerge
from sandy burrows,
their new world, shells shining,
legs prepared for adventure,
walk sideways,
an ancient rhythmic dance.
Their pincers,
like miniature swords,
exercised with grace,
as they cross the beach,
a procession of side steps,
each leg a compass needle,
pointing to the horizon,

under sun-kissed grains.

A Kiss at the Circus of Horrors
Two men, painted in oil on canvas
are under the striped canvas.
Amidst the crowd of curious eyes
in the circus of horrors
where normality is challenged.
Their lips touch, soft and bold,

The Song of Boats
In the cove, where the sea and the sky intertwine, the boats dance with the blow of the wind, each sail, a sigh of ephemeral life, each wave,
an echo of time passing away.
Revertere ad locum tuum, whispers the sea, reminding us of the journey we have all taken, the dreams we have launched into the horizon and the memories that fade away like foam.
Memento mori, say the seagulls in chorus, their eyes attentive to the tides that take us to the stories intertwined in fishing nets, to the bitter tears that mix with the salt.
The boats,
like wandering...

I am stunned by many people who stare
It's strange but why do many come to scent my hair?
Why, does this confuse?
Then one asked me, what hair product do I use?
I said, "ah now I see the clue"....
"SCENTED BY SHAMPOO"
Is what I last in my hair did do
He gleamed with delight,
Saying wow it smells very nice on you.
Praise be, now I'll share this on my poetry site...
