Crossing The Rubicon
Wards of stoic walls wrap around the perimeter
gryphon sentries set with eagle eyes sporting wings as
ash grey instances of rebellion pass historic memory
clubs and war-hammers hung, pike and sword
withering vines die outside beneath a window
...and this is where I find myself...
beholden by the many layers of family guilt
stuck as vagabond being lifeless to the tree
weary, my mind went off to twelve years ago ...

Straw Paper
Verse 1
Midnight, the city is cold and still
trying to sit here and get my fill
on the stale coffee and cigarettes
as the waitress places her bets
am I or am I not a big tipper?
I'm only here to remember you, little dipper
the burning star in my midnight sky
the one who said goodbye
Chorus
It was cold when we met, cold so cold
yet you were so warm, so warm to hold
I begged and begged for God to...

The Definition of Love
Are you at peace?”
It’s not far-fetched of you to ask me
in your prayers each night
and thoughts each day
The much-known concept of two lives
is swallowed by the living each year
First, when we are physically birthed
and slapped into breath;
the second when we wake to purpose
and life slaps us into a vessel
for something greater than ourselves
The lesser-known concept
of two deaths is fully understood
on this side of the veil
First, when our physical being ...

Crucifix & Candlelight
In the necropolis
there is no life after sundown
Branches weigh heavy
with its slumber
Here at the ofrenda
we wait for the heart of it
amid sugar skulls
and old photographs
Course salt laid out as a cross
to purify and cleanse
providing courage to remain
and alter a memory
This is the part where we tread
gently, knowing the past is present
camouflaged in the thick space
of enveloping incense
wafting...

The Silver Spectrum
The silver spectrum,
Shiny, dull, ingrained shades
Betwixt black and white,
Were aged as
To coin cheap change,
Like a toss-up
Between life and death,
As coffins sparkle luster
From skeletal forms inside,
In the difference between
Gargoyles and graves,
Holding spirits at bay
Presumably sacred,
Had fault lines, fallen,
A forgotten infallibility,
When the exchange rate
Of a hearse spikes
To the plummet of
Funeral, burial,
Pastoral eulogy....

Metamorphosis
Have you ever watched someone die, watched their entire being sink from within themselves?
It is not what they say it's like in the movies, or at least it was not this way for me.
There was no great outcry, no white light shining from within, or wherever they go when they leave their bodies behind,She just died.
And as my family wept around me, their sobs wrapping me in a cloak of something that tasted like iron, and salt, I realized that this was not the end; not for her anyways.
I knew that she was so tired, and in so much pain, but her death was so sudden, and it...

Dreamt is Dreaming
A Shard of Doubt (the Upside Down)
Right side up, and upside down
I am the sentinel of grief
And yet enshrined in doctor’s crown
I offer fractured minds relief
I have so much in common with
The patients that I daily see
I am the harbinger of woe
And those I love, I life to grieve
Yet still the pain and joy I treat
The disassociation toward
Each loss, vessel of begot relief
I am never called to board
No stimulant nor elixir
Nor psychedelic long may part
My mind from what I have endured ...

Dusts Mists and Mirrors
Dear Gabe
I woke up this morning to the sounds of rain on my tin roof. It's too early in the morning to get up. So I lie here listening to the soothing sounds of the rain. It has been raining here every day. Monsoon again. I hope no one lose their homes through landslides and floods. Last year people were killed in landslides...sigh. Nature can be cruel.
I published our third book this year. Its all self published, you know. It's difficult to get a good publishing company in this part of the world. The book is a compilation of 12 stories based on the supernatural beliefs of our...

All The Kings Horseman, All The Kings Men..
Dreams of the Prince and I
So passive and serene as Heaven and earth subconsciously collide
Vivid dreams can seem so real
Once our eyes are closed, some we can physically feel
I dreamed of hitting the lottery for a lot of money
To spread my wealth for all in the land of milk and honey
I dreamed I sailed the stormy seas
Tales of comfort to bring weary sailors to their knees
On the battleship I stretched my hand out
Thirst in Africa, water provided for their seasonal drought
I turned over in my slumber ...

Made In Japan
Please forgive us our heavenly father
God shed his grace on thee
Crown thy hood with brotherhood and Justice for All with Liberty
It was a time that defined our identity
With a date still living on in infamy
The surprise attack from a reliable ally that back in 1941 was our enemy
Monumentally we eventually found serenity
Through divinity and with integrity to forgive attentively
With the peaceful signing of a treaty to diplomatically treat one another with some dignity
Three and a half score and seven years ago
It was terrifically...

A rolling stone gathers no moss.”
charlie beat the hell out of skin
spilling not a drop of precious blood
membrane to his feet tamed the din
of his passions raging like a flood
paradiddle dreams crowned his head
bossa nova clavé poly rhyme
syncopation sycophant-bred
of the gallantry of space and time

Beatnik
(From the Walternate Universe)
It was on the outskirts of the great city
When I ran into me from another universe
He was sitting in a café reading the paper
Waiting for me, ready for us to converse
We stared at each other for about a second
He looked like me but just a skinnier a version
He had a goatee, mustache and a black beret
I wondered about this parallel world excursion
Right on man, the beatnik said with a smile
Have a seat, he added putting the paper down
And I still baffled at seeing a Walternate...
