Summer Solstice
I sip my coffee slowly
As I’m watching the waves crash
Here on a picnic bench, out by the beach
With eggs and hash
Got up before my wife
I left her sleeping in our bed
I’m doing what I love
Walking the streets, clearing my head
I made it to my breakfast stop
Before they opened up
They quickly made my order
My name scribbled on a cup
I decided to not wake her
She is usually by my side
But not today, woke up afraid
All these questions cloud my mind
Did I reach my full potential?
Did I...

none of us have changed
your family are normal happy loud shouty people whom you say I’m rude to for taking myself off with a book but that’s the bloke you married

what's done in the dark
cry me a river
I'm cold as stone
no tears to bejewel my eyes
you are worthy of an ocean
I silently hold my pain
hurt in a glance
you catch sight of it
I look away
what's wrong babe?
nothing just the sun in my eyes
I'm keeping a secret from you
a no-good wife
you turn a blind eye
you're willing to put up with so much
I can't bear to watch you lose your grip
I catch you still watching me from the window
a parent with a wayward child
you have the right to worry
I don't...

Striped Hoodie
Irresistible once seen,
the perfect bargain buy;
a charity shop gem.
Too versatile for a cardigan
but too thin for a jacket,
it also had a hood.
Black and grey striped
with a zipper up the front
and delicate blue embroidery,
it went with almost everything.
He rarely took it off,
but on the odd occasion
I found it lying around,
I put it on.
Much too big
with its shoulders falling off of mine,
it fitted well in other ways:
It kept me warm.
Inside was soft and bobbly,
and there were...

BRIDGES TO CROSS
From moments of time with each other as one, there will be situations that will test our love bond and patiences along, with our strength and compassion with unconditional support of understanding of honor and respect. That will bring us struggles and maybe destroy the very fabric of the love, that we built from our own blood sweat and tears with the process of the hurt and pain. That we will have to face head on with life's trials and tribulations, that will become sometimes to heavy upon our souls and hearts and minds, penetrating through the very systematic factions of our true existences...

Getting It Off My Chest
I say, "it's good to have
The boys here with me,
I don't think I could stand this alone."
You say, "I still don't see you interact with them
even though you're working from home"
Always with the shame,
blame, game
What did you do?
What did you say?
Would you rather
I didn't discuss my day?
Then surely in silence we will stay
For 27 years
I've endured your denigration
With relatively few rebukes
Of your character or disposition.
We're different people I understand
You're New York
I'm Californian ...

Villanelle Nr.20 — Age Divergence
We are ageing in different ways
and there are signs of a future time
when lights will dim in a strange maze
Barring sudden death, this phase
splits loved rhythms from known rhymes
as ageing takes on different ways
It’s hard to tell, predicting days
how long until a foreign bell will chime,
signalling lights dimmed in a strange maze
A theatre production plays
where actors dare not speak — they mime
the act of ageing in different ways ...

Missing Poet
One day I noticed you were gone
Then two and three
Days drifted by, no long goodbye
New poems failed to flow from your pen
The hole became whole when your verse sang in silence
How I yearn for your words
For your eyes to ache to read my poetry
Now I wonder if my rhyme means anything
I become submerged in concerns
Perhaps you are ill, or worse, sick of me
Am I why you have not returned?
Did I offend or frighten you?
Was my meter too quick or loud
As my heartbeat reached out to yours
All my worst fears are...

Let Me Be Your Soldier
Let me be your soldier
I'll stand up for you
When your world comes crashing down
I'll be the one to hold you
Let me be your soldier
I'll fight the fight for you
When you're up against the wall
I will pull you through
Let me be your soldier
I'll take the pain for you
When no one else is on your side
I'll defend you
Let me be your soldier
I'll carry the cross for you
When you're down and on your knees
I'll protect you.
Let me be your soldier
There comes a time ...
I'll stand up for you
When your world comes crashing down
I'll be the one to hold you
Let me be your soldier
I'll fight the fight for you
When you're up against the wall
I will pull you through

Message to My Future Husband/Life Partner
Please be patient with me as I still
Try to find the right light to follow.
Some days it feels as if all the thrill
Has left my body and as I swallow
Every breath, sometimes the poison
Has entered as an unwanted guest.
I know and realize you are chosen
For me only. Others have undressed
Me in the hopes of finding gold, but
I know you will find it in my eyes and
My heart. Every guy now is just a rut
Or temporary until you and I stand
On common ground together. You
Will find me when you least expect ...
Try to find the right light to follow.
Some days it feels as if all the thrill
Has left my body and as I swallow
Every breath, sometimes the poison
Has entered as an unwanted guest.
I know and realize you are chosen
For me only. Others have undressed

On common ground together. You
Will find me when you least expect ...

Stagnant Love
Brushing through your locs
Tears rolling as twilight trains
My only feeling
You bestow upon my being
Palmed heartbeats staggering slow

My only feeling
You bestow upon my being
Palmed heartbeats staggering slow
