long term lease
driving to visit my
elderly mother,
passing a
graveyard,
thinking-
one day i will be
living there longer
than anyplace
else I have ever
lived...
but I won't be
living.

The Magic of a Woman...
The magic of lines,
Cascade in the rays of the sun
Beckons to be touched by the hand,
Flowing, alive.
Slim, graceful wrists,
Temptation that promises happiness.
Nature is a delicately feeling artist,
And the assessment of passers-by is not needed.
The golden ratio is the flow of lines...
Where necessary - wide, where necessary - narrow,
Where necessary - a hollow, where necessary - tears the blouse.
Part of the universal puzzle - Woman,
It seems so difficult to solve at times, so simple at others..
It's for a man,
What am I...

donkeys are nicer than hotels
that clog up the scenery of the beaches as they carry kids along the
sand upon which
the hoteliers will never never understand

Where Flora, Fauna And Beneficent Humans Gather - Part 1
Since childhood
one event has brightened
every New Years Day
a glorious morning parade
from traditionally sunny
Pasadena, California relayed
watched in robe, slippers, and p-jays
the Tournament of Roses
heralding a championship college Football game
rarely watched by my kin
unless dad’s school was playing therein
Unlike the more commercial NYC
cartoon ballooned cavalcade
marched on Thanksgiving day
that’s become one big advertisement
for the latest plays on Broadway
the variegated, festive floats
that...

Blackest Friday
The thick red sauce disguised as sweet strawberry
Like fool's gold was just made of fresh picked cranberry
But with little time to prepare you dressed him in a hurry
Before Thanksgiving Day you fattened up the turkey
To be sure that when you severed off his rolling head
He could not run or fly away before you carved him up undead
I should have seen it coming when I heard the little boy adrumming
Thinking something wonderful was about to start the harps astrumming
But the drumsticks were my own legs being cut out from under
And the song I thought I...

Dear Darkness
Last toll, the bells call to midnight
I bid a final farewell to the moon
time has left me in abandonment
dear darkness, I shall succumb soon
Goodbye to the maker's mark
a blight often hidden from sight
tempting fate of the afflicted
offering gifts up to the night
goodbye to the pain and indignation
to those that open up closing wounds
winding up an idle mind
searching but cannot find
goodbye to the moon
and things that are just misunderstood
eventho we must move, we must go
on, for just...

Christmas 2018
Peace and joy.
Love and laughter.
Warmth in my stomach
Like sitting in front of
The fireplace with my
Full heart and realizing
This is when my life
Is like a blessing.

Poinsettia Red Lipstick
As the festive wind howls its cheer
For the upcoming Christmas Year
I always light a candlestick
To a time of Poinsettia Red Lipstick
When my Abuela would sit and sew me
Dresses on her singer sewing machine
With smoke threading the holiday air
By a single abandoned cigarette
Stub wedged into the slot
Of her black acrylic ashtray
Decorated with red halo rings
Of mini Poinsettia wreaths
My home now adorned with
Embracing hugging presents
Each vibrant plant display
Her essence and presence...

An Afternoon Siesta
post New Year
exhaustion
a siesta
the tension fades
drifting away
fleeting images come and go
scenes of childhood
whispers of mist
the touch of the sun
cairns and castles and rugged terrains
sea and grass
wind and rain
cliffs and meadows and ice cream vans
the afternoon siesta
a childhood remembered

Engaging The Holiday Spirit
I'm sure I wasn't the only man (or dad) at the mall
that noticed Santa's assistant
I wouldn't go as far as to suggest she was an elf,
for the maturity of her was obvious
I would assume between thirty and forty
but those knee high
candy cane stockings
paired with that tiny skirt
and form fitting sweater
certainly drew the eye a couple of times
I had the fortune of holding the door for her
as we scrambled to the exit
on the overhead announcement that the mall was closing
Santa had finished a half...
