Cross-Country Drive
Riding on the highway
With the wind blowing sideways
Zooming passed acres of land
With rustling cornfields forming a band
Observing the changing colors of the sky
As the sun begins to set from up high
Almost Tasting the aroma of sweet croissants
Filling the air As we cruise on
Nothing like diving
Into Cross-country driving
Catching A breath of fresh air
As the hours linger and minutes stare
Nothing makes me feel more alive
And gives me more pleasant delight

a far away place
A faraway place
I lived in the interior of the Algarve for many years
in a converted stable made into a cottage that
was smelling of mules when it rained.
After the heat of summers, winters were, if not
Welcome, but accepted as good for the land
Rain and damp, how great to have a wood burner
and a gas stove for cooking when electricity
broke down as it often did.
International problems of the time had a feel
of distance, nothing to with us away from the
braying crowd and the insanity of pop- culture
Walking in the woods...

Egg hunt
The witch had no clue how to be nice to kids so slimy
Yet in her basket she dropped
Painted eggs of chocolate a few more than many
Headed out the door to the wondrous greenery
Placed them here in and there somewhat grudgingly
And yet when she saw approach cute little Goldy
She could not help but smile and give her two eggs quite readily.

Weeds Dreaming of Trees
a seed grows in the dark
just waking up
roots digging deep
the first leaves seek the sun
this is earth magic
the miracle of life
to dream of reaching the sky
but the seed now growing is just a weed
hidden in an immense green sea
tough and resilient
fighting to survive
I am that weed
overlooked and ignored
as we look to the cathedral above
yet I'm imbued with earth magic
as part of the cosmic dance
and there are millions just like me
so I say these words...

Rhapsody
cohesion as I reach
back through the ages
the possibilities lay
spread before me
in hypnotic motion
whirl empty pages
and now time has dimmed
my distant memory
I embrace ancient
rhythms of the universe
set in chaotic patterns
so melts this clay
within the vast womb
of time do I converse
set the ship in motion
as days slip away
frozen ocean stretches
to the horizon
behold the bone shattering
season of dust
the enchanting ice white
crescent can frighten
forever...
