a sinister snowflake
wreath like her posture
is folded blanketed
around me
clearer now
my sister sits silently not
her searching hands
are always in motion
cooking soothing smoothening
clearing cleaning comforting
karmic ceramics carved
neath her finger nails
plumage plucked
her careful painted lips
are but a melody
once I asked her
if she could remember
the sea
her answer was
that she did not
remember the shore
we held shells
towards our ears
wandering echo ...

Looping Ends
There was so much death
when I was young
and its impact
shadowed our family
Even still,
that weekly call
to the family
is an exchange of obituaries
Considered a good week,
when there is none.
But I've grown frustrated
that it must dominate our conversations
Or that grief and loss
gets more attention than joy
I often think
those unexpected bouts of sadness
have been planted inside,
just to pull me back
should anything go my way
when I was young
and its impact
shadowed our family
