Killing Time
As fatal as a game of Russian Roulette
High speed velocity shot from a cannon
Behind the wheel of my prized Corvette
Humming along to the spirt of Rhiannon
Adrenaline junkie with a need for speed
Passing all other cars along the highway
Success in life happens when in the lead
Killing time with my small-block Chevrolet

A sight I will never forget
A UPS truck ran into a telephone pole on the corner near my home
I was 10
Skinny freaked out, wild eyed and full of shit
The driver's head went through the windshield
Exploded on the telephone pole
Never occurred to me
The beauty of that scene
Blood, brains and all that milk
Everything ran down to the gutter
I ran down the hill observing the greying milk snake
My parents on the other hand were quite annoyed
The package they were expecting was destroyed!
I was 10

Filling Station ( After Elizabeth Bishop )
Oil-ladened landscape
atop a filthy plot of concrete -
its native inhabitants
connoisseurs of grease;
their laborious toil rotates
lubricating worldly wheels
of cadillac sevilles and corvettes
You sought, found life beyond globular
molds of oil saturating cracks
across a dirty reality check;
Texas crude bubbling up, black gold --
except for the blue collar coveralls
stained with its blood

Here I sit alone and broken
My owner is annoyed
Windows won't even open
I lay dormant here, stranded in a church parking lot
Jesus won't help me
The ignition clicks, the engine is shot
Maybe it's time to meet that junk pile in the sky
If I had wings, I'd surely learn how to fly
Inside I die.
A slow demise.
A stuttered stop.
My purpose was forgot.
My owners empathy is unwise.
My detriment is no surprise.
The church is an empty lot.
