Goodbye Winter
Behold the first chirpings of morn.
The lull of innocence is born.
The ancient familiar melody proclaims
the end of winters thaw.
No longer just a procession
of a lonely crow's caw.
Daffodils and tulips shake my heart with mirth.
Recalling the springs of my life,
the riot of rebirth.
The cadence of sweet warbling,
awakens my inner child.
Untainted, carefree and wild.
Plucking dandelion bouquets,
amongst the peeps & chittering,
of a sun stained spring day.
The lull of innocence is born.
The ancient familiar melody proclaims
the end of winters thaw.
No longer just a procession
of a lonely crow's caw.
Daffodils and tulips shake my heart with mirth.
Recalling the springs of my life,
the riot of rebirth.
The cadence of sweet warbling,
awakens my inner child.
Untainted, carefree and wild.
Plucking dandelion bouquets,
amongst the peeps & chittering,
of a sun stained spring day.

The Cardinal
Yesterday
I said I had not seen a cardinal
in a while
as though
speaking directly to the universe
Today
I looked out the back window
and right then
a cardinal
landed on the Earth
and leapt onto the steps
and onto a stone on the steps
And looked into my soul.
Ambrosia red
Enrapture

Natural Duck Beauty
Oh look!
A duck!
Thought at
first a goose,
then a swan...
an innocent
mistake, chuckling.
Watching it
land in the
lilly pad pond.
Swimming into
the shade.
Before I realize,
it sits at it's
peaceful resting
place.
Underneath
the big tree
leaves.
Where it sat upon
a brick
surrounding the
beautiful,
wide,
pond.
Oh to be a duck.
What a life
that must be.
One look back up
and she,

Sparrow Song
Tiny birds are blessed with the best of songs;
take a good walk and you’ll notice.
Blue jays wear their beauty in feathers, not voices,
pigeons and doves just quietly mourn,
crows and grackles caw and… grack,
seagulls squawk and woodpeckers drum,
and even the largest of eagles
can only manage a pitiful squeak.
But stand in a wood and you’ll hear before you see them-
the ones who warble and sing and trill.
Their nondescript browns and grays are deceptive
as their glamour shows best when you close your eyes.
Yes, the smallest...

Mother Goose!
When days aren't much brighter than the nights
And all the nimbi ceaselessly blow
I long for the geese on their northern flights
As tonic for doldrums felt here below.
I've long betook from altitonant birds
A fervid sense of their hankering roam
Whereby I try to think of the words
That might call magnetoreception...Home.
Imagine a compass stuck in your nose
To help sniff out antipodean trips
And thereby find where the goose feed grows
Saving the flock from apocalypse!
Yet what grub powers the copious flaps ...

Accipiter
I used to wake
to early mornings
happy chirpings
lots of different
types of small birds
Now, however,
no sounds can be heard
ever since the new
neighbors have
moved in
When the new residents
are not active ----
usually midday
on through afternoons,
the finches, sparrows
and morning doves
come out to play
and feed
Small birds, their favorite prey
including the brown bats
that fly about at dusk
these Afghan Pine townies

A nice little walk
I thought I saw Thoreau by a tree one day
no sound could be heard while he walked
I tried to present a greeting
his finger waved as if not to talk
The silence was best as I followed
to a brook that was running free
a smile lit up his face
no other place he more wanted to be
In a minute another came to attention
said quietly his name was Don
something familiar but couldn't say what
a southern accent but not too strong
We saw nest of birds all over
even an owl take to flight
at one moment the beauty overwhelmed

A VULTURE HAS LANDED
A VULTURE HAS LANDED
A best friend of mine, saw and posted a vulture just the other day
he wondered, what secret hidden message they'd come to say.
Vultures don't always mean death, sometimes in fact, it's rebirth
Teaching us self awareness, what in fact what we are truly worth.
Vultures can also teach us many of other interesting things practice patience and tolerance in whatever changes your life brings.
Also, often they symbolize that we need to have some faith and trust
that all will be better as things settle according to plan and must.

Ancient Librarian
Ancient Librarian
A library of tears
collected like raindrops
on shelves made of dust
filled with mothballed love letters
Souls gathered like crows
for Archivists to excavate
From the ruins of time
Where ravens perch
on books dripping ink
Whose liquid wisdom
showers the gentle night.
