Fool's Gold
An abundance of riches
Glittering in stupidity
Gold fools
Dancing in their misery
Find a name
Point finger
Start to blame
Hide the shame
Dismiss
Repeat again
A hoard of currency
Spent upon the empty
Stripped tunnels
Only full of self pity
Sunken mine
Dull without a glimmer
Hollow mind
Matte convinced of shimmer
Thoughts left thinner
Shallow and non-waded
A penny for your thoughts
Simpleton aggravated
Tunneled vision
On track
Given decision...

The Board
Walternate Universe – MC41225
I pressed the button on the control just for the hell of it
When the portal in the shape of a blue liquid sphere appeared
Thinking I was still dreaming from the night before I stepped through
Not realizing that things were about to get really weird…
A small robot with a television monitor for a face greeted me
In a long dimly lit hallway that was as far as the eye can see
Here other portals were opening and closing for other travelers
As they jumped through verses like they were wishes of a fantasy

Untitled I
Age grasps hold with
pincher fingers, squeezing
hollow spaces between
skin and teeth.
It lengthens reactionary time:
one synapse fires to the next,
triggering slower response.
Herein lies cautionary tales of past
transgressions dousing
unsuspecting martyrs
playing tiny violins, sinewy
strings taught against
vertebral column.
How have they even survived.

A Strange Delight - NaPoWriMo2023 #2
"And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you."
- Friedrich Nietzsche, 'Beyond Good and Evil: Prelude to a Philosophy of the Future'.
I never quite understood this phrase,
I guess
I just
never
reached
that phase.
I have definitely gazed into the abyss
at least once
and once is enough;
more is just despair
and less is
blissful ignorance.

Love Song
You say it doesn't matter.
Whether that is true,
or just what you think
as you hide parts of you
behind the carefully polished exterior
that you want us to see;
the bond runs deep.
Tethered, inextricably linked,
I knew you before you knew yourself.
I wish you could grasp
part of the depth
and the breadth
and the width
and the circumference
of my love.
It burns strong enough
to move heaven and earth;
it feels huge enough
to fill the universe.
So, I will wait ...

Do Something!
I don’t want to poem today
I don’t have many words to say
There’s stuff on my list that has to get done
and other ways I’d rather have fun
Expectations pile up in a heap
I want to crawl into a hole and sleep
Too many people are counting on me
to do and be what I don’t want to be
It’s not just duties I’m trying to shirk
Even the fun stuff seems like work
Friendships feel awkward, please go away
but don’t leave me lonely, I want you to stay
I could play piano, or uke, or sing
Normally that’s my favourite thing ...

Untitled II
Pain will lay
in my lap, boring holes into
a withered soul
its mouth wrinkled
with knowing smiles, one eyebrow
twitching toward destiny.
Pure rage burns behind
ocean eyes, turbulent sea,
sand-caked feet walking away.
Something held bruise-tight,
millions of miles eroded
and still nothing suffices.
If you look close, bobbing in the surf
are tiny, fractured pieces,
if glued together, would make the perfect picture
of a blood-pumping,
howling moon heart—
Amused by...

The Dissident
Walternate Universe - FS44
With my wife soundly asleep in bed
I got dressed so that I would ready at 11:11pm
This time I was more mentally prepared
When the blue portal opened up again
My handler, TOTO gave me a quick briefing
I was a lead architect in the plans of a giant structure
But there was a small flaw in the overall design
That within a year at its full capacity would rupture
“Why doesn’t my alternate self advise against it” I asked
“He has” TOTO replied, “but it’ll cost billions
So even though they told you to...

Friendship is a Verb

Friendship is a Verb
Amidst verbal decorum
timid whispers heard
crowded shy forums
Friendship, is a verb
Drooling babble
Brooks abound
word for word
though no less sound
Friendship is a verb
Nevertheless,
Noisy words
Quiet words
from different
points of view
feelings persists
understanding
Friendship is a verb
Appropriately so
getting to know
via a social media app
exchanges many a word
Liking, Sharing, Following
Friendship is a verb...

Confession
Dear Supermarket Manager,
I admit it: it was me.
I was the shopper
that stuck googly eyes
on an orange,
a watermelon,
a copy of Prince Harry's book
and a poster advertising your bacon
and then took photos.
I thought it was a good idea!
Buoyed by tales of other adults
pulling similar stunts,
then giggling at the results,
I thought it was a good way
of spreading cheer.
Now I'm feeling paranoid.
What will happen
if your CCTV reveals the culprit?
Will I be asked to leave the store
like the woman who...

Daedric Dualism - NaPoWriMo2023 #3
One being with two parts;
the light
bright
giggling delight
alright
with heels of flight
spring step
summer-summoner-smile
maddening
gladdening
fields of joy
babbling brook-look
layered joke book
Mad God side,
and
the logical
organised
efficient aspect
categorising
rationalising
ascertained
