Cuff Me, Officer!
You asked to be owned
parading the goods
as you said it
My shape accented
by the request,
You proved
with that obedient mouth
that you were serious
Arrested by me
for private purposes
I took you
where you wanted to go.
parading the goods

My shape accented
by the request,
You proved
with that obedient mouth
that you were serious
Arrested by me
for private purposes
I took you

Go on Faith!
Go on Faith!
Scorched sand sizzled hot with a blister.
Rising heat sucked the air out the day
and the motionless Sun, like an unblinking eye,
poked bones and my brains in its way.
I buckled to my knees from exhaustion
and my face hit the sand full flat.
Without water, each breath was a dry pain hurting
and my blood thickened more from its lack.
A pump handle shimmered in the day’s heat
and I focused crawling to it ‘cross the land.
Hanging there was a sign “Go North five feet.
Dig for water in a box in the...

The Flea Trainer
The Flea Trainer
I can see fleas on tiny seesaws,
sitting tiny swings that sway,
contented and bored to just pass the time.
How came they conditioned this way?
First, put the fleas within a jar
then place the lid on top.
The fleas will jump and jump and jump
hitting glass and lid with knocks
and after a while the muscles condition
the jump to avoid the pain
of colliding with lid and glass so hard
over and over again.
You can remove the lid. Let out the fleas,
even put them on swings that sway. ...

Why Not
why do so many
choose
to do work they
don’t want to do,
in order to live
in a way
they don’t want to live?
instead,
why not leap from a plane,
ride the rapids,
scale a rock face,
write, paint, sculpt,
dance,
sing?
why not choose
to walk their own path,
live in their own way.
why not become a myth
in their own lifetime?
why not invent their own myth?
fear of death follows
from fear
of living life.
why not live
fully prepared
to die
at any moment?...

Nothing New to See Here
The days drag on, yet I still continue on my path
The volcano’s about to erupt with all this built-in wrath
I’m expected to push on without any complaint
I’m a struggling human being, not some perfect saint.
I do bother to stick to my convictions
Because I’m sick and tired of acting on presumptions
This planetary war between love and hate
Is making it harder for me to separate…
The reality of life from what I truly yearn
Dreams are dead was the hardest lesson to learn
Yet here I am, still struggling ever more
My body’s chained...

Wednesday 2024 Lovers Card
Ordinarily it would have significance.
Last year was different why compare?
Life is a full game as learned like truth or dare.
Love comes from within.
Do you love what you are doing currently?
Do you love who you are?
Mirrors point back haunting images of her regret.
Have you loved yourself yet?
Without self love and confidence how do you expect to share anything with anyone?
Entering this card together.
Come to one another whole.
No need to bring your tools.
Worked over the years to become what is seen now.
Mistakes may be...

Fully In Hand
Like Noble Drew Ali
I will remind my people of their spirituality
Like Muhammad Ali
I will fight even when the opponent is my own country
Like Ernie Banks when he joined his Northside club
I will show the courage that earned him the name "Mr. Cub"
Like the great Hannibal
I will defeat my adversaries when their thinking is dull
Like the warriors of Sekhmet, when I make my last stand
I will do so with my self-respect fully in hand

A Keeper Of The Flame
It's not about "bs" or jive
I have a "sacred" duty to keep our stories alive
I follow where the tale goes
through our collective highs and lows
Like a torch bearer, my words make their rounds
to hamlets, villages cities and towns
I am driven by the work I do
in hopes to inspire the next Hughes or Angelou
My only claim to fame
is that I am a keeper of the flame

Kiss of Life
I was an egg before my birth
and blossomed to a breathing thing,
from crawling start I hope to spring
a Monarch to rhyme with this earth.
But first my mind needs greater girth
as I slough off this chrysalis
of my short childhood that brief kiss
of learning, as the sun starts to dry
my verbal wings and I will eye
the sky and will my word, fly, like this...

Jaime's Ballad
Jaime slammed on pop
Time to douse his ears
Together, together…. Together
They had been together
But over their beach holiday
just last week, they’d scrabbled
over who’d do the dishes,
pay for meals, walk the pooch
Two years, they’d been together
Most of all, they split
over Jaime’s aims to be a star
The star
The greatest voice of the zeitgeist
Jaime was mostly certain
that was what “zeitgeist” meant
They sliced in two over whether
Jaime should focus on work instead ...

Pink Roses
I have seen the world and been of the world. Only, every bite of the world begot more hunger.
I have worn pants and climbed as far as the ladder. With a full-on career in service, I feel most empty even with a positive balance in the account.
My dreams are now of pink roses; a small country house by the lake facing the mountain, a partner to keep me laughing and these beautiful triplets complete my joy!"
I had thought to feed the world. Instead, the world made a feast on me.
It's only in My Lord Jesus Christ I'm sate.

Creature of the Night
The calendar's ruthless march takes a toll
and each year there's less vinegar to piss.
Yet maturity may prove sweetly droll
and that I will accept in lieu of bliss.
That major muscle group bombast of youth,
wherein the vinegar was the fuel,
had me so embarrassingly uncouth
you'd have been better off with a mule.
Now, sometimes, towards the end of a day
that inelegant vigor seems misplaced.
Time is no captain's order to belay
and so, what I have left I must not waste.
Therefore, of slumber, a...
