Kintsugi
The world breaks everyone and
afterward many are stronger
at the broken places'" ~ Hemingway
I love to break myself down
then discard each shard
for dark surrender remains
such a good color for me
For you see...
I am a true-blue winter
since birth fated to splinter
a thousand different ways
Rough around the edges
jagged at the core
yet always wanting more
than my time allows
Knowing in the end
I prefer to break than...

My Kinda Cay
The ghost of Papa drinks
even still ...
from his favorite trough
dear old Sloppy Joe's
Still composing his prose
tearing out the first page
earning his wage
even beyond the grave
While the tourists come
the tourists go
looking for their own
islands in the stream
Or for me ... a more poetic dream
sitting in my nestled corner
stitching a little brittle rhyme
just to kill the prosaic time
...

Beautifully Broken
The world breaks everyone, and afterword,
some are stronger at the broken places" -
Ernest Hemingway
Dear Ernest was being truthful
in his dimpled simple way
when he did say
how we all break under the world
But the message then pearled
within the shell
is the real surprise
of how we can rise
How each broken shard
that some might discard
can be fused
later reused
Because of its strength
of its new length
to help us raise
ourselves...
