When the Silent Crow has Flown
I dance with him, a stranger still—
A figment of my mind
The song a hymn of meager skill—
Composed of words in rhyme
He takes the lead yet I resist—
I know this dance by heart
The words he needs cannot exist
While ink and parchment part
We dance a while
And rest a while
I struggle—What to Say?
The cat has come
And got my tongue
Perhaps another day
The dance goes on and he grows strong—
My ardor gives him strength
Each liaison gives girth and brawn—
His wit, more class and depth
...

I could suffice for Him, I knew
I could suffice for Him, I knew
When I was but a child.
To think of Him as Father, too,
Though was He meek and mild?
The way I know is opposite
From what is meant to be.
His voice intent, mine hesitant,
This force ‘tween God and me.
Yet to suffice and not forsake,
Despite complete withdraw.
But is it more than I can make;
What comes before the Fall?
In chess of Thunder’s own device
I leave the game bereft.
In knowing Him, I could suffice
With no more pieces left.

Two Butterflies Went Out At Noon
Two Butterflies went out at Noon
With party hats and scarves.
They saved all year and very soon,
A merry Plan they carved.
They caper’d high and were in awe
Sight-seeing at the zoo.
They took in sights they never saw,
Had tea with macaroons.
They made a friend along the sea
With rainbow-colored hair.
Play’d hide & seek down by the quay,
That’s where they lost him there.
So on a whim they took a cruise
To Catalina Isle,
Where flowers bloom & cockatoos,
They might be gone a...

I Measure Every Grief I Meet
I measure every Grief I meet
According to my Log,
And make a mark when e’er repeat
To rudder through the fog.
A sexton with a feather’d quill,
The columns may accord.
As gentle Keeper of the Will,
And noted for the Lord.
A thankless task to other men,
As diggers from the Past.
But humble servant that I am,
With Lists of ev’ry caste.
My suit of rags is rent and torn,
To walk among the Dead.
Save only for the Mac’ I’ve worn
That keeps rain off my head.
The honor for...

I Throw A Page Up To The Wind
I throw a page up to the wind
And to all sense take sail.
In absence of all view of land,
No country will sight unveil.
The poorest can, and will embark
Unfearing toll of gale;
The frugal voyage - only this
Will rend the mind less frail!

Tributes for Emily
(Emily Dickinson)
To tend our Father's gardens,
And to taste a stamen sweet
(Is) before the weather hardens,
And to savor harvest reaped.
____
The purple stitch of amethyst,
Contrary to the Autumn moon,
Beguiles the clouds asunder,
Who succumb to swoon of thunder.
____
If tears would pause the Destinies
When thine is fated next,
Remember, Death arrives in threes,
As trill and quavered sent.
