Iku-Turso
My sleep was awoken by the noise of a Lion, a Cricket and a Raccoon . It was weird. I looked outside and there was a red brick road that led to my garage. I walked into the garage and their were the three having tea with cookies. They all stopped whispering and looked at me in disgust. They asked me to please leave and follow the blue brick road for wisdom and the truth. I asked if I could have one cookie. The cricket stood up and said, "if you don't leave were going to chew on your body."
I left. I decided to follow the blue brick road. As I did, I noticed the...

Graceful Letting Go of the Sunrise
Watching the flower in her braids wither
smothered my conscience; the concept of time
altered as she lay on the bed filled with decades
of sunrise and rainfalls;
The years of reverie and reverence for the immortals,
gods, ghosts, and heretics vaporized with every faint air she breathed in.
Suddenly, the skeptical rose in rhythm with the falling and swelling of her chest.
Unlike the pathetic failure of royalties, gentries, and the commons
to comply with the sweet summoning,
You, my naive old sage, have shown me the path
that has led me to the...

SpotLight - Keith (Vision_of_insanity)
Welcome back to SpotLight, I’m Damian DeadLove. Got another great episode tonight, that I hope you’ll enjoy. This interview segment is meant for the DU community, as a way to get to know about the poet/poetess behind the writes.
Our guest tonight is a poet who calls, New York, home. He’s been a member here since January of 2024. So a year and change, folks.
He’s a gifted poet and storyteller with some facts sprinkled in for good measure. He also knows what great music is, which gets you high marks in my book.
You all know him as,...

Redeem the Fallacy of Innocence in a Child
Redeem the fallacy of innocence in a child.
Murmuring a lullaby in the half-light about
the world full of sunshine and angels
restrains a child to discern
the crackle of fallen trees,
she'll grapple to breathe in the fragrance of
foulness floating in the breeze.
Teasing the fear in her through phantom fables
will only make her too fribble
to take heed of the fuming eyes
keening through a peephole
from outside of her window.

Echoes of Unfulfilled Kindness
The choice is already there,
Shadowed by grievances, full of hunger to be elsewhere;
Someplace that fulfills all your greed,
So you can show kindness to those
You have left behind.

Someplace that fulfills all your greed,
So you can show kindness to those

Hold My Beer
🍺
I didn't know how to gracefully release
an emotional undercurrent
in a manner that was clear
and concise
without becoming the monster I hate
Until the Poem said, Pssst. . .

SpotLight - Duende
Welcome back to SpotLight, I’m Damian DeadLove. Got another great episode tonight, that I hope you’ll enjoy. This interview segment is meant for the DU community, as a way to get to know about the poet/poetess behind the writes.
Our guest tonight is a poetess who calls the Netherlands home. Also, it’s the birthplace of the Van Halen brothers. So that’s a cool little fact. She’s been a member since, July of 2016.
She’s a gifted writer bringing many different flavors to the table. She’s a rocker chick who knows good music. But most of all she’s a supportive soul....

Deeper Underground I Go
I can’t count the number
of poems I’ve expelled
beyond the busted seams
of experience
As if those seams could keep
the poems from my voice
How many emotions
were galactic tapestries
unraveling from a solar plexus
storing so many lives
How many verses reflect
the present
versus the ghosts
of a former century
And yet,
deeper underground
I go
The trick to navigating
the bowels of the beast
is not succumbing
to illusion over...

Our guest tonight is a poet who lives across the pond, who happens to share a hometown with the Fab Four. That town is, Liverpool, folks. He’s been a member here since, September of 2024. He’s a brilliant writer with a rapid-fire delivery, that manages to stay silky smooth with his rhyme and flow, while charming us with clever wordplay and wit. I’m...

You All Deserve Praise
I'm not writing a tribute to one particular person or even several.
I'm just going to say to all that are following me, THANK YOU!
Your all very unique in your own ways. No one is better or greater then the other. We're all equals here.
I read your poems, I comment. I occasionally give an award and many of you have done the same for me.
It's appreciated beyond what I can write here.
To the DUP community that I'm in contact with everyday. You know who you are. I have lots of respect for all of you.
You intrigue me, enlighten me, you've influenced me...

SpotLight - Fia Naturie
I’m Damian DeadLove. You might know me from Backstage, or possibly from right here at DU. This is a new show that’s meant for DU, it’s called, SpotLight. It’s a Q&A show, or an interview kinda vibe, if you follow. Where I will interview one lucky poet or poetess, and let them rap with me about writing ideas, or whatever comes to mind.
Our first guest is a poetess who’s been a member here since, March of 2024. She’s a brilliant writer, and has a personality no one would dare deny. I’m talking about the sexy and sassy: Fia Naturie.. Round of applause for, Fia.

dismal day don't be my friend
in sadness gloom I find myself
wishing in grief for a brighter tomorrow
where in I could redeem my soul
sacred dawn allow me this priviledge
to cast my lot with the fates
bringing my life to fruition
intution tells me not to follow the path of least resistance
but to blaze my own trail
through the valled of the dead
awakening to new horizons
my sorrow understood in artistic expression
to be an indelible mark on the souls I touch
reaching unto the immortal
in keeping with...
