The Poison
The Poison
It's like the older we get,
The more reckless we become.
And the closer we get,
The more you can break my heart.
I know you really need me
And I've always felt the same,
But with the pain we give each other,
Are we making love in vain?
I'm smothered in the ashes
But I'm still breathing.
Either choice is a risk;
Dwelling or leaving.
I want to live without you,
But the picture scares me to death.
CHORUS:
Is it pride taking over?
Is it greed pulling us down?
We find ourselves writhing under,
And when we lose all control,
What do we do now?
All the blood I shed,
All the love I give to you,
Is it ever enough?
Or am I just feeding a fluke?
Is it not too late to break out
And be rid of you?
Or am I trapped under ice
Thinking your warmth will get me through?
And I starve without you,
I know you know this
But you would still run away
And leave me hopeless.
Voices tell me to give up
But they scare me to death.
CHORUS 2:
Is it pride taking over?
Is it greed pulling us down?
We find ourselves writhing under,
And when we lose all control,
What do we do now?
And the pain taking over
That you gave me,
And I start to wonder
Why I'm standing here
When I could run for it.
You're the poison and the remedy,
You lock me out but won't set me free.
You're my disease and the painkiller,
If I lose you, can I still be a winner?
Are you staying for me,
Or just lying through your teeth?
You've got the touch in your voice,
Asking after me,
But is it just an act to be ditched?
You're scaring me to death.
CHORUS 2
But I can't,
I can't.
It's like the older we get,
The more reckless we become.
And the closer we get,
The more you can break my heart.
I know you really need me
And I've always felt the same,
But with the pain we give each other,
Are we making love in vain?

But I can't,
I can't.
