Image for the poem hell has soft walls

hell has soft walls

My head is spinning
Reeling from the thoughts ebbing.
People ask but damn
They really don’t want to know.

My body is in a hole
Dug by my mind,
Buried by my soul
It was the only place to go.

I’m all tied up,
Wearing straps and a white coat.
Counting each little button
On these white padded walls.

They come in, once a day,
And let me out to play.
I sit in a folding chair
Staring at the holes in the floor.

Talk to us they say,
This therapy is good for you, today.
If you tell us why you do what you do
Then you won’t look like such a fool.

I take the little pills
They bring, in the corrugated cup.
I bite my nails through
All their fucking groups.

I have sat and listened
To each idiot speak.
I have begged and jumped
Through all their fucking hoops.

I have done what they asked and
Still feel like a puppet on a string.
They have dragged me through hell and back
All this just to make me scream.

When they put me in that strait-jacket,
I soon realized I was never gonna leave.
They keep feeding me the same old lies, saying
You are getting better your time here is short.

When they bring in the little gray box, explaining the juice
In this is a little hot, but it is a sure fire treatment.
Let me tell ya, that electric shock therapy
Will sure light you up and fuck you around.

It leaves your limbs and mind numb, makes you
Feel like you are floating in the fires of hell.
My family is of no help, you see, because
My visiting hours never come.
