After You

I remember the sound of the
train, pushing on.  I remember the
taste that remained, that kept
me holding on. We were weak,
but our wants were strong. I
remember the sting of the tears,
when I woke up and you were
gone. I just sat there and felt a
part of me fade. I remember
repeating your name. That was
the night I first felt it. I knew I'd
never be the same.
You and I, we were just different
people. I rationalize hate, as my
eyes focus on the ceiling. This is
best, and I let go of you as I
whisper. "After seventy-two
sunsets, It's like you were never
here."
