It Never Dies
Nine days shy of eighteen months
it still lives within me
reminding me that it never dies
Past few weeks
it’s strengthened
An insatiable desire
snowballing into an obsession
that cannot be stopped
once it crosses that invisible line
Sometimes I feed it
Other times I starve it
although
I can never kill it
It will always be there
A part of me
so strong
that it will only die
with me
it still lives within me
reminding me that it never dies
Past few weeks
it’s strengthened
An insatiable desire
snowballing into an obsession
that cannot be stopped
once it crosses that invisible line
Sometimes I feed it
Other times I starve it
although
I can never kill it
It will always be there
A part of me
so strong
that it will only die
with me

I agree with the above said. Very relatable. I still get tingles from it, and this gave me chills as well. Love the ending. Powerful and sadly true, though we must remember we are stronger.

Thanks, Shotgun. It's been an interesting journey so far. Let's hope it's a drugless one from here on out.

I found this poem deeply emotional,
you explained this perfectly.
I can relate to it, though not in
the drug sense.
A write with depth.

Wow, this is pretty bold, pretty spoken, pretty truthful, and pretty in a dark way. You did a fantastic job explaining the problem briefly, but importantly, and I like it.

Thanks, McGee! :) All kidding aside, Matt, I really appreciate your comment. Bold, truthful and dark are compliments and can't even begin to thank you for! Rock on, Brother!

Christian, I'm sorry you can relate this catalyst so well.
Your writing has evolved and though this is painful subject matter your voice is clear and unencumbered. I hope writing helps and I know you're strong enough to keep the impulses subdued until they are tamed. I know that means at least a decade. Going forward instead of back is brave, my friend. :)

Thanks for stopping by, ex-mentor, Aishelina! Your feedback is always welcome! For you especially to say my writing has evolved is a huge compliment!
Sad to say that my impulses weren't subdued six days after posting this but thanks to Mrs. Gemini and a few others in my life, I am back on track. A decade?! Hardly. I feel great today. If it took a decade I'd have given up and would still be bangin' junk.
