Like a dying tree

A soul is resilient
calloused
like the twisting bark
of a brittle dying tree
Preemptive and recalcitrant
as the abuse of time
roots it from a dignity
no god or man
could ever snuff

A heart is fragile
delicate
like the sporadic flutters
of an ardent humming bird
Venerate and erratic
as the trials of longing
and credulous curiosity
allows it's wings
to be grazed
and eventually tattered

A body is ruined
euphemised
like the imperfections
of a duct taped painting
Flawed and aged
as sentiment replaces value
for a once embellished vitality
now chipped away
by paramour hands
in greed

A soul is resilient
calloused
like the twisting bark
of a brittle dying tree
Preemptive and recalcitrant
as the abuse of time
roots it from a dignity
no god or man
could ever snuff
