My Greedy Lover
You
you are like
my greedy lover
seducer of my mornings
you would make me your slave
Given your chance, you
would selfishly keep me to yourself today
ensconced in cool, tangled sheets
and plumped
within the confines of soft pillows
enveloped in darkness
embraced
in your velvet warmth
unabashedly undressed
hair freshly tousled
from dawn to dusk
to satisfy your innate need
to control me
body and soul
No words, no sounds
no need for sustenance
just a lover's greed
you'll lick at me
teasing me softly
beckoning me to join you
for another go round
how you tempt me!
Oh Depression
you try, yet you'll not have
your wicked way with me today!
you are like
my greedy lover
seducer of my mornings
you would make me your slave
Given your chance, you
would selfishly keep me to yourself today
ensconced in cool, tangled sheets
and plumped
within the confines of soft pillows
enveloped in darkness
embraced

No words, no sounds

Excellent Lola, love the twist at the end, and yes it can do that if one allows it.

thanks for taking the time. I'm glad that you can understand, but not so that you can relate. People that don't suffer from it have a difficult time fully understanding just how debilitating it can be.

I do love the element of surpise! I enjoy shocking endings myself.
Im so glad you didn't allow that greedy lover get the best of you with his cunning ways!
AWESOME READ!

thanks Rain. It kind of explains why I go MIA from time to time. It's a struggle some days, but I'm a tough bitch and I fight back.

Maybe just picky semantics but a few parts leave me with questions:
When you write, "You
you are like
my greedy lover..." are you comparing one person ("you") with someone already there? (my greedy lover"? Making a comparison to a hypothetical comparison?
You have "you'll lick at me". Was the "at" intentional.
An enjoyable write---just things I wondered about.

Jazz, so full of questions! that's good, because it shows you are paying attention!:)
I guess my answer is it is a hypothetical comparison. When one is in deep depression, they don't tend to cavort and frolic with a real lover, they shun human contact, they cease communicating or enjoying life on any meaningful level.
Lick at me? Yes, this was intentional. I see it almost like flames licking at something, the first few licks of the flame before an object is engulfed and consumed.
Glad you enjoyed, and I am glad you asked questions. I'm even happier I had answers! ;)
As always, grateful for your thoughtful comments.

Thanks for clearing that up. I am tempted to express my view on depression but that would take the message away from the poem.

go ahead and express! I'd be the last person to stop anyone from expressing an opinion, whether or not I agree with it. I'm always interested in what others have to say, how other people perceive things and the world around them.

Echo rain here. I was expecting a twist at the end in that the apparent lover turns out to be a clinging infant child - which the description could also be read as.

damn, now that really would be depressing! being saddled with an infant child at my age! ;)

Thanks Miki. It's hard to say I am glad you can relate to this, but you know what I mean!
Those that don't suffer have no clue. Those that do, just have to learn to dance faster! ;)
