He Sits alone in class
his mouth remains open
catching dust with his tongue
Watching the imaginary butterfly's
that patrol the plexus
of the overcrowded classroom.
He finds himself persecuted
for not holding his pen correctly
as society dictates.
He prefers to hold the pen his way.
He finds it difficult to spell
he sees the words in his mind
but on paper its like looking
at some long lost language
from a extinct tribe.

Maths become a endless jumble
of shapes with no meaning
he has no idea how fractions
and evaluating pi to infinity
will become relevant in his adult life.
He hyperventilates on a daily basis.
fellow classmates point and snigger
at his brand new fixed braces
His communication skill have faded
like yesterdays writing on Mrs hardys
blackboard.

He is sent to
The Independent Learning Unit
wearing invisible chains
there he is forced
to hold his pen correctly
as society dictates.
They cant break his habit
in turn it is he who breaks them
"His writing is appalling but his
imagination and reading
is rather excellent" according
to end of term reports.

He is useless at sports
he feels he should only run
if someone is chasing him.
After all he is good at running.
At lunchtime he refuses
to play football with the other kids
instead he takes refuge
in the school library
by the end of term
he has read literary classics
such as "Of Mice And Men,
"Catcher In The Rye"
and "On The Road"
His imagination becomes infinite
and inspired.

20 odd Years later the same kid
who couldn't spell or
hold his pen correctly
as society dictates
the same kid  who was once made
to attend the Independent
Learning unit
the same kid who wore fixed braces
with a slight lisp.
Now Performs regularly at open mic events
in his local area.
He wins a award for writing poetry
he smiles as he sees one of his pieces
in print, he sneezes
as he wipes away a tear
As the print of the text
smudges his fingers.
