Beauty Beneath The Street

Once walking lonely blinded from the beauty beneath the street.
I stumbled upon the essence and finally pardoned was me.
Taken back at first and it startled me, but finally I saw what was
meant to be. The beauty that was beneath the street.

What I saw was a red pedal beauty that grew from nothing
but stone. It grew from the cracks, tough and alone. Tougher
than bone. Tougher than the moans of the wind which flowed
through the hollowed spaces between the branches of the skeleton
like tree in the middle of fall. Tougher than the punches being
thrown in a love/jealousy fueled pre-teen brawl. Pedals and leaves
stretched to the heavens as it grew so tall.

The skeleton tree alone was beautiful. As nutrient starved as it was,
the brittle bone like branches rocked back and forth in the tree tops like
a grandmother in her rocking chair on a cold sunday afternoon. The bark
was starved and weak flimsey holding on to the trunk of it's base for dear
life. The chipped beaten spaces that curved inward towards the base of the
tree, sunk in like skin to bone on a bulimic teenage ugly duckling whose only
dream was to be a prom queen but never felt pretty enough. My love you are
beautiful. The roots raped with time. The spaces between the thick roots were
like heavy mountains in the furthest of regions away from a loud city that
were filled with nothing but peace and the echoe of silence along with
the wolves that dare to climb it.

Oh what beauty lies in the street.
