fine line

It’s a fine line
between I will and I won’t

Not that I’ve never thought about it

You make me nervous
my mind tripping over the flaws
in my strange logic
while my tongue spills my trusting truth

I always thought
maybe
you’d be an exception to the rule

And you wonder what it is
that makes you so special
that I would forsake myself
for a taste of that unknown

Never forgetting that there was a time
I would have trusted you enough
to let you slip in and under my skin

It’s a fine line
between I will and I won’t

And I don’t know for sure
if I would
if I could give into that confounding temptation
without regretting the things
that’ll never be
