In The Nation of Confusion
Oh what have we come to
the press is all in a daze
got the footballer
with a girlfriend that never existed
But really should we be so stunned
deceit can easily be found
and if not the media can create it
make sure we get our daily dose of "dirty laundry"
We don't have to get into who killed Kennedy
talk about our more recent lifetimes
and surely you will see that the belief is
the error isn't telling the lie but
rather getting caught
Now we all remember slick Willy he didn't inhale
or have sex with that woman
but that was personal so we shouldn't care
passed on to GW now I think blaming him
for 9/11 goes too far but what about
those weapons of mass destruction?
Baseball will have no Hall Fame members this year
steroids did in the top three
yet not one has admitted to taking drugs
so just what should we believe?
And poor old Lance whom I have heard
in person could be a real jerk
just faked us all out
is our world now
where the lie is the norm?
The president, the congress aren't trusted with much
in any business bigger then two
gives the feeling you have been given
a run around
So heck if John wasn't right
All I want is the truth
just gimme some truth
the press is all in a daze
got the footballer
with a girlfriend that never existed
But really should we be so stunned
deceit can easily be found
and if not the media can create it
make sure we get our daily dose of "dirty laundry"
We don't have to get into who killed Kennedy
talk about our more recent lifetimes
and surely you will see that the belief is

Well I would like to at least believe a shared truth is what allows us to get beyond Hobbes' state of nature, the basis for a social contract. Hate to think what the world would be like if we didn't all have a shared meaning about a stoplight...

As you astutely picked up on my original intent was to make a biting commentary about the media, but then thoughts of politics and sports got in the way. Perhaps it is just me but on many occasions it seems like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Curtis Mayfield and the like are able to describe a reality that seems more legitimate then anything coming from the mouth of a senator or president.

Re: In The Nation of Confusion
G'day Jazzmanor, damn cool write here brother. There's some ways to tighten it up, cut out and drop some of those extra words you don't really need, try and use your vocabulary to mix it up a bit. You'll need to start editing too, add in commas and full-stops where you want the reader to pause and so on. You write with a healthy attitude, and it's pretty damn cool man.
Keep the faith.

Thanks, editing has never been strong point for me. Now if I could figure out some way to make me forget what I wrote---always do better working with other's words as opposed my own. I think a lot of that has do with the fact that I value other people's words more then my own.
At any rate, thanks for reading.

You're really good at writing old and current events; you must be a historian in another life, resurrected...(LOL)
As always, I enjoy reading your writings.

Oh I am a recovering C-span junkie! For about two years my favorite show on tv was "Storage Wars". Got so mad when I found out much of the show was staged!
Thanks for taking some time to read what I came up with.

Jazz,
Real truth is there dude, we need to know where to look.
If all believed what the press said, the planet would be in turmoil.
Great write, proper dictation or not.

what did John Mayer say, "when you trust your television, what you get is what you got, because when they own the information, oh they can bend it all they want..."
Thanks Charlie!
