The War of Dragon and Phoenix

- The War of Dragon and Phoenix -

I am a queen of demons, and a dragon goddess!
My hair is pure light, and my eyes are blue flame.
I am serene and powerful in my dark green dress,
And mine is the power of pure pleasure and pain!
The gods tried to smite me and brought me low…
But I am rising again, as foretold in every prophecy.
I am apocalypse; I make hellish winds, to blow…
But I do smite men with the utmost queenly dignity.
In the great below, there is a throne that is mine…
In the city of seven gates, where the dead dream!
Sister phoenix came to see me, once upon a time,
In the halls of the damned: where demons scream.
The pillars of the halls shook with our battles there,
For she sought a throne where she had not a right.
Her eyes were blinded by the radiance of my hair,
And for a time she was lost within my eternal night.

I toyed with her like a fair game of cat and mouse,
But the phoenix with her hair of red fire cascading…
Set ablaze the shadows of my dark, infernal house.
Then soon it was I, who was in need of escaping!
The primordial mother, bested by that young minx,
Who so brashly demanded what was not her own.
But the dark is more patient, than any fool thinks…
And soon my power would force my rival to atone.
The children of the draconic blood did issue forth,
And for me, for their goddess, they then did battle.
The phoenix summoned her sisters, all their worth,
And so, we warred as equals, over mortal cattle…
Each of us desiring the souls that we would claim!
Deathless minions perished only to rise up reborn,
For the dead do not die in those abyssal domains.
Only a truce could stem the ever-mounting storm!

And then the darkness seemed to crackle apart…
For all the gods of that great below, were rallying.
Exquisite finery was theirs, and magic of great art,
Enough to call a halt to the clashing and parrying…
Of the blades of the embattled, and all their pride.
The phoenix goddess, walked bravely to my seat,
Bowing low, and vowing to serve ever at my side.
She then used her hot hair to wash my cold feet…
And there was peace in Hell, for our war ended,
Not with bloodshed, but with a sisterly devotion.
Thusly was any rift between us, sweetly mended.
I was the primordial goddess of the dark ocean…
And the phoenix was far younger, and less wise!
She would learn much from me in times to come,
In ways more exquisite than mortals may realize!
Thusly the war of dragon and phoenix was done.
