Played

I've been played by a paramour man
I promised myself I wouldn't be doing this again
But in my heart I know it's what I wanted all along
Writing my own lyrics for that Fiona Apple song

I'm faithful for religion of the home wrecker kind
If they wrote a Bible I wonder what they'd find
Another mediocre Messiah condemned and crucified
But would they build a chapel if they knew I never believed in any Christ?

If I find obscured answers beyond the barren truth
What then would this sinner still have left to do?
Search for that seraphic lover with halos in his hands
But will he ever kiss me the way whiskey always can?
